Fifa frets over 2010 stadiums

Look what happened when the US offered 600 million dollars to the health Dept. The health dept in the end didnt get the money as there was an issue with how they would spend it. The US wanted to be informed and the minister said we will spend it how we see fit. Yeah right.

If you think for one minute we do not receive money from foreign gvt's then you are living in a fantacy world. We never see that money. Its used for who knows what ?

The world cup is not a right you have to work hard to deserve it. If they take it away it is because our GVT is too useless to organise it nothing else.

But you know who will be blamed if the cup is taken away ? The negative moaning white boys

When we won the bid there were parties all over in the country and even our President was in the country for 2 days I think :D

I think they just forgot that after the parties theres work to be done. But I still hope we can get ready in time will be really sad if its taken away from us.

fantasy :D
If you want to know why not e mail the US treasury? You are the one who calls other people idiots so why not go and find out ?

I am trying to find out but none of my searches are turning up anything.

The best I have so far is that donations where given to the new gvt when they took over which all got paid over 3 years ending in 1998.

Apart from that I can't find anything... But who cares about facts anyway. They aren't that important....

Screw the gvt for wasting all this fantasy money that we don't know about and can't find any information about. The bastards....

This thread is idiotic,... Cheers people.

"Commenting on the latest US pledge [of $10 billion], Julian Borger and Charlotte Denny of the Guardian (UK) say Washington is desperate to deflect attention in Monterrey from the size of its aid budget. But for more generous donors, says the story, Washington’s conversion to the cause of effective aid spending is hard to swallow. Among the big donors, the US has the worst record for spending its aid budget on itself—70 percent of its aid is spent on US goods and services. And more than half is spent in middle income countries in the Middle East. Only $3bn a year goes to South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa." Monterrey: US Will 'Seek Advice On Spending Aid', World Bank, March 21, 2002 - So lets say half goes to Sub Sharan Africa and then lets say its further split into smaller amounts, we are still getting some money from that. no ?

You have to ask yourself why so many nations around the world fall over themselves to host events such as the World Cup soccer or the Olympics in their own countries. The positive spin-offs greatly outweigh the costs. I hope that SA pulls it off with style.

Hi Icyrus, the intial comment and yours are valid, but this type/size of investment does not happen without a driver.
If the guv had to say they wanted to build a couple of stadiums, improve roads, electricity, telecoms etc etc all in one go there would be a national outcry and endless debates on how much money where and when would be spent. The world cup provides the incentive for all parties, opposition included, to buy into the concept and support the expense, it aint cheap.

I believe that the public would have no problems with the government spending money on improving needed infrastructure around the country - like roads, public transport, hospitals, police stations and telecommunications if they were transparent about their plans, budgets and deliverables. Stadiums are a different story as most people would not see the need for new ones outside of the world cup setting. Personally, when we have so many other essential services that need improvement, it is criminal to spend so much on stadiums - world cup or not.

Oprah/Bill Gates or any other person like that does not count as they don't donate to the government they donate to charities all over the world including SA.

Bill Gates (See above.. Can't you read?)
Money to help fight AIDS across the entire African continent including SA

Malaria - Aids - Jointly with SA government to build some extra classrooms. PR stunt.

The new facilities were built with funds from the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Corporation (ODC) through its Humanitarian Assistance Program and the North-West Department of Education in South Africa.

The ODC administers its Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP) in South Africa to promote good will and to strengthen ties between the two countries. It works closely with its South African counterparts to develop professional relationships between the United States and South African militaries, to coordinate military joint-exercises, to administer defense and security assistance programs, and to promote mutual understanding.

Seriously that is the best you can do and you state that we are getting hundreds of millions of dollars which is being squandered?

I remember now why I avoided this section of the site. If people believed what you guys believed we would all be dead already.

Marine maybe you should check the links before believing they actually supported your bizarre view on SA....

What is wrong with you? You asked for examples of donated money. I gave those to you, you don't like that tough. PR stunt or not, it was a donation. Maybe if it was spelled as "donashun" you might understand?

BobbyMac : Those were mostly by private individuals, to charities, not from gvt to gvt...

I thought you left? Well I will try and get the e mail of the treasury as you are obviously too lazy to do it or maybe the facts will prove you wrong?

We are probably getting a very small percentage of the $3billion that is earmarked for south asia/africa....

And that money is usually given to NGO's iirc.....

But I do agree with you, money that gets poured into Africa, invariably doesn't go where its supposed to.
