If you take school boy rugby as an example it is massive clashes every week with big tournaments, great facilities and tv broadcasts. If South Africa could manage this with football just imagine the opportunity we would give so many youngsters and the quality of players we would produce with some youngsters possibly getting into European acadamies. It seems like such an obvious solution that would have a massive impact on the entire country and just boost moral.

We had a good run with this, but the Dutch realised we just weren't going to produce the goods. Managed to get players like Pienaar out of it, though, to just give an idea of what could have been.


Ajax Amsterdam have confirmed the sale of a 51% stake in the South African football team. The transaction will be completed on the first day of October 2020.

"After the strategic reorientation, which was reported in February 2020 during the presentation of the half-year figures, Ajax concluded that the ambitions and results in Amsterdam are in too great a contrast to the development of the football market in South Africa," read a statement from Ajax Amsterdam.

My son is lucky enough to have football as an option at school but there are not many other schools we can organise a game with, then the fixtures are often canceled because the other team has issues. They end up playing 4 matches a term.
The coach is also just whichever teacher is available.

Most of the really keen players have a private coach come in (ex National Squad o_O) which is really great but also only once a week.
Then some of the kids actually play club as well, just to get a game.
Its wild to see how many keen players there are but how little there is in the way of tournaments and leagues.

but if you go to a rugby school then its life, proper coaching, fixtures sometimes twice a week, holiday programs and clinics, Craven week etc... and there is still club teams if you really want to push it.

My school never offered it, mainly because it was majority Afrikaans, in a majority Afrikaans area. Most of the guys who played ball were English or coloured, or Afrikaners whose parents didn't know. The former would all play for their local clubs (mine was De Beers). I'm think they do now, though, as the school is majority coloured.
 
On the school thing need to get schools offering football. It was ridiculous while I was at school. No football was offered as an organized sport but they had no problem using it during pt class. This was an Afrikaans school.

You cannot throw money at shít and make it not be shít. The idea that everything takes money to build is completely false.

We build the rugby we have because of the love of the sport without money with kids that wanted to play and parents and teachers that volunteered their time. You need a ball and a grass field and if you cannot get the community/club to maintain it themselves why must someone else pay for it? Then they don't want it.

The last thing SA soccer need is more money. Money attracts corrupt administrators who are greedy opportunist and will never benefit kids.

Oh, England doesn't know how to score. One could argue that Ghana was impressive keeping the English out, but when you see the stats, ouch. So much, but nothing. The England team isn't going to sleep well.

Yes and no. If managed properly it could make a massive impact for a relatively small amount of money. Private / top public schools don't need any funding maybe just a willingness to start a proper foot ball team. Lower income schools could definately use facilities even if its just a big sports club in a certain area that a few schools use and then you appoint someone to actually manage and maintain it.

They already have money and infrastructure.

A 80% budget cut would probably go a long way to make sure soccer is managed properly.

You cannot just say manage it properly as if that's something that is just going to happen.

Because of the drama in our game the refs were told to not give out cards or penalties too easily. All the news was just most red cards ever and fifa doesn't want that.

I am very happy to see they don't award diving and bs were teams try and milk a penalty but they are going to miss a few legitimate ones.

Soccer cannot be "fixed". If a ball is in the net and a goal has been scored it is very obvious.

And it isn't clear what happened from this guys screenshots.

Match fixing and corruption is endemic in football. FIFA itself is filthy. With the amount of money involved in football and the sport's close relationship with betting companies through high profile sponsorships, the issue has most certainly not gone away.
