Finally did it - cancelled DSTV

I have a 4meg MWEB account, so I don't know.

Its still a farce imo, with this setup you are expected by MC to have your own smart card which = a dstv sub, + a 4meg mweb sub juist to watch streaming sports online? Convenience my ass, unless you're rolling in the cash I do not see this as an easy and cheap alternative. At the moment if you're a F1 and bike enthusiast in SA you are pretty much screwed for live sport content. Why do these companies HAVE to arserape the customer? Oh right, greed!

Completely agree, only thing I would use a premium account was for sport once every couple of days. There's probably 5 sports events I would watch a week now that the IPL is over.. completely not worth it.

The 4meg account I think is completely worth it, but i'm not sure whether you can use the online streaming service with another ISP.. I think you probably can as I don't recall having to fill in ISP details.

Multichoice sucks though, I wish we had a worthwhile competitor with the same sport content.

When we don't have DStv here I use a friends smart card number on the Supersport website for streaming F1 and cricket etc.

So F1 races get streamed live on the Supersport site, yes? I have the 1 meg account. Am watching golf (just testing) and it looks ok.

My signal went AWOL 2 days ago and I'm not even motivated to sort it out.I've been watching series on my HDD in the interim and I find that much more satisfying.

Isn't it? It feels liberating. You actually enjoy watching TV when you get to choose what to watch when, and years before anyone else in SA.

Yes they do, along with qualifying.

However there are some soccer matches that don't, like the UEFA final wasn't streamed live,

That argument could be used for anything actually. For instance, if you're a Big Brother Africa fan (which I hope you're not, I certainly aren't), you're also forced to get premium. And, for the ADSL alternative advocates, I'm pretty sure you can't download that. My point is, if you really love something that much, you shouldn't (1) complain about the cost and (2) celebrate when you cancel your service. No matter how much bitching and moaning happens on these forums, it will not change (unless there's serious competition, and that's not TopTV) so for your sport or BBA fix, suck it up and pay ... or cancel and don't make a big deal about it. IMO.

And this is the reason why consumers get the shaft in SA. If I'm paying for a service, and that service is, for want of a better word, crap, then I have every right to complain about it. Consumers in SA have this idea in their heads that we are not allowed to expect good service, and god forbid if you complain about anything.

Dude, I, and many others that pay for this service, actually work hard to get the money to pay for it. Multichoice don't automatically have a right to my money because of it, they need to actually provide the service that I pay for, and if they can't, I have every right to withdraw myself from that service. And bi7ch about it if I so choose. As a consumer, in fact, it is an important step. Especially in a situation like Multichoice. Monopolies do not have competition to drive service, so complaining is vital.

I completely agree that we get shafted in this country in many, many respects. I do however find the tone of "complaints" on these forums about "finally cancelling" that monthly bill for DSTV a little annoying. Almost sounds like people were forced to get it in the first place and then had to fight tooth and nail to get rid of it. This is most certainly not the case. If this was about TV licenses I would have a different opinion completely.

Oh, and I also have DSTV.

A bit like those who come into threads and comment how they're not interested in the threads content instead of just skipping the thread.

Get over it. No one forces you to read it... And this forum definetly doesn't belong to you.

I downgraded a while ago and thought I'd get by with SS3 on one of the cheaper packages and stream the rest. Turns out they only ever show Man Utd on SS3 every other team is shafted onto the other channels.

Busy trying to figure out a way to get Veetle streamed onto the TV. Going to drop DSTV entirely too now

Good Riddance
