Firefox usage

Any site that complies to W3C standards should render correctly irrespective of IE of FireFox. If the site does not render correctly it means it does not adhere to the W3C standards.

Yes - your correct.

The reality of course is that many working webdesigners don't have the time to ensure that everything is W3C perfect.

For my part, so long as the content of my websites is readable in all browsers (including text based ones where possible) then I'm happy.

If my websites don't render 99% identically in iexplore and firefox (plus derivatives), then my job isn't done, well, I try anyway.

As for the "big guys", there's no excuse. If you've got the bucks to throw at development, from the outset, you follow the rules.

Check this site out if your a webdesigner :-

Very cool.

Are there any tangible reasons why you should think that FireFox is streets ahead of IE except for the fact that it is not a Microsoft product.

I use Firefox (actually Mozilla) at home, but I am forced to use IE at work. It is chalk and cheese. The best feature found in Firefox and lacking is IE is the Tab sheet function which allows intuitive multi-threaded browsing. Once you've surfed with Firefox, you'll realise just how klutzy and clumsy IE is. And how is that pop-up supression? Shweet. And goodbye to those frequent IE freezes.

I also play online chess, so the abiity to open all my active games in their own tabs and switch between them is a priceless asset.

And it's faster, noticably so.

Firefox can freeze, just like IE - same circumstances usually (with windows)

I've been meaning to get back into chess - what's the URL ?

Oh yeah - there's no argument about that.
There is problems - one thing that is still a problem is firefox's handling of large textbox inputs - things have improved, but more improvement is needed.

What's nice is that Mozilla is silently supporting some IE-only implementations - document.all[] is a typical one...

you might misunderstood me. My meaning was, that I am using e.g. Snagit, Getright, which needed a Mozilla Plugin. I am not using IE functions. Mozilla is much better.

Have you noticed that you can view your saved password by going to Options, Privacy, Saved passwords - So someone can get onto your computer (presuming you haven't passworded it) and view your online banking password

my IE just crash on me constantly.... firefox saves.... grrrr

i need it for my develoment.... *sigh*

Nah - online banking shouldn't store your password anywhere.
In addition, any decent bank has a username / password / code combo

If they don't, change banks ! :D

My computer is password protected - I was just thinking about people who don't know about these sort of things! Thanks - I must remember to set a master password though

Granted, but I was replying to a previous post about IE-only sites. :)
