Fires in Australia

The nearest fire from my place is about 200km away, couldn't even see the house 3 doors down at supper time. My friend said it was even worse in Melbourne CBD, couldn't see across the street. Hopefully better tomorrow, weighing up whether to stock a few P2 respirators before they start selling out locally.

I hate to think what is happening to your lungs with all that smoke.

I have relatives in Australia and they say that the environmentalist & green groups are utterly against any sort of preventative measures and now they are reaping the whirlwind.

Ah, yes - the 'greenies' that aren't in power anywhere are now to blame.

Classic conservative move of never taking any responsibility whatsoever.

The Greenies have already blamed climate change and giving the Conservative PM hell....

Yeah, can't imagine why. Total mystery.

Make of this what you will.

Notable in that for something that's apparently so prevalent she can't even name 1 'greenie' that apparently argued what she says, and instead has to rely on caricatures instead.

Also notable how she's in denial about climate change, too. Ah, the missed opportunities. One wonders if she ever educated herself.

The Greens haven't been in power on a state or federal level and therefore can't enact policies that affect these types of things, but that hasn't stopped many people from blaming the political party for having a hand in the fires.
Now a fire brigade has broken its silence on the matter and explained how that rumour is wrong.
Political parties of any denomination do NOT influence the decisions of organisations like FRNSW, ACT Fire and Rescue, ACT and NSW Rural Fire Services and Parks and Wildlife Services when choosing when and how to do Hazard Reduction burns.
"It just doesn't work like that.
"The main reason Hazard Reduction burns are cancelled or delayed is due to the predicted intensity of the burn exceeding the limits that would make it safe for firefighters, native flora and fauna and obviously you wonderful people."
Former NSW Fire and Rescue Commissioner Greg Mullins wrote for The Guardian: "Blaming 'greenies' for stopping these important measures is a familiar, populist, but basically untrue claim."
Even experts have dispelled the claim.
University of Wollongong's director of the centre for environmental risk management of bushfires, Professor Ross Bradstock, wrote: "These are very tired and very old conspiracy theories that get a run after most major fires. They've been extensively dealt with in many inquiries.
"It's simply conspiracy stuff. It's an obvious attempt to deflect the conversation away from climate change."

LOL. Greenies/enviromental zealots/unwashed hippies basically blame all big events on 'climate change' without ever explaining in detail what they mean by that. Big tornado? Climate change! Huge tidal wave? Climate change! Bush fires? Climate change! It's all rehearsed. The whole climate change bushfire link is falling apart given that most fires were started by arsonists:

Nearly 200 People Arrested Across Australia For Deliberately Starting Bushfires

Around 85 per cent of bushfires are caused by humans either deliberately or accidentally starting them, according to Dr Paul Read, co-director of the National Centre for Research in Bushfire and Arson.

lol, classic Chris. Citing an article written by a guy from InfoWars that misstates the articles it links.

And well done for falling for bot-driven misinformation. 'Rehearsed' as you say. ;)

Meanwhile, in reality:

Climate change is influencing the frequency and severity of dangerous bushfire conditions in Australia and other regions of the world, including through influencing temperature, environmental moisture, weather patterns and fuel conditions. There have been significant changes observed in recent decades towards more dangerous bushfire weather conditions for various regions of Australia.

Apparently Prof Ross Bradstock, the director of the centre for environmental risk management of bushfires at the University of Wollongong, who has been researching bushfires for 40 years, is nothing but an unwashed hippie who could learn a thing or two from Chris (the brit ). Chris clearly understands the situation better than the majority of scientists in the world... Smh...

Oh look, Greg Mullins, Former Fire and Rescue NSW commissioner, what would he know about this stuff, must be a greenie/enviromental zealot

All of this is just ad hom and character assassination. Do you have anything real to add?

Can't be. It fits tribal prejudice so it must be true!
We've been through this.

There's ways to properly manage a forest and the greenies have protested and prevented that.

I do agree with you though. They are a tiny irrelevant minority. So it isn't really their fault that they are uninformed idiots. It is the current administrations fault (who should know better) for listening to the greenies.
