I don't think "greenies" always specifically refers to the Green party, but to environmentalists as a whole. While the work they want to do and what they want to achieve is good in the much, much longer term, they don't always think about the consequences of their immediate actions. Perfect example is campaigning against burning off, as well as the protection of carbon offset trees which if located in designated burn off areas (or even on people's properties!) cannot be touched.
Will post the article when I'm in the office, but an Australian fireman was fined $100k for burning off patches close to his house. Later, his house was the only one standing after a major bush fire. Any argument that it isn't necessary or doesn't work is simply wrong.
