Firing a broadside

I must say that Neotel service offering has been poor to begin with.

When they first started making plans I had several meetings with on of their people, and there was a lot of big dreams for the future being sold across the table. None of these dreams, I repeat, NONE of these dreams have come to fruit.

Instead we have a measly little hack at a CDMA4000 modem with built-in phone. Those that I have spoken to and have claimed to use it have presented a bitter taste on their tongue tips.

Currently Neotel is not in competition with Telkom. The Mandate was to have a fixed line operator, not a fixed wireless operator. I can get fixed wireless from the magnitude of WISPs out there, and I can get uncapped for as low as R350 on these WISPs. But in the end you get what you pay for.

We are paying for a low latency ADSL and we are paying high prices for Bandwidth that will work with that ADSL... but we are not getting anything slightly resembling ADSL from Neotel. Instead, we are getting what we are paying for... Cheap and Nasty...

Sorry Neotel, but until you bring something viable to the table, like affordable DSL, FTTH or even that pipe dream I was sold, about getting community based service providers who buy bandwidth from you, and simply supply the last mile to the customer? Now that I was interested in? I have even gone and studied Fiber Optics for my FOA accreditation. Seems I wasted my money and time...

Woza Welcome... Neotel (Neohell?)

Oh, and trying to get any feedback on possible large haul installs... we have chosen to go Microwave, as we can't wait endlessly for people to comeback to us...

In a nutshell, Neotel is currently only presenting technology that is on par with Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Virgin Mobile. So instead of looking to see if Telkom will drop prices, let's look at our brothers in the sky?

I do not want to guess how much petrol I'll use in a month and as a result I pay for that. I want whatever is left over in my tank to still be there the next morning after month-end.

Same with broadband.

Unless I use the unlimited product, but then the price is too high.

Second issue I have is the speed. Anything less than 4Mbps is just too time consuming. But even that is too slow compared with what is available internationally.

So here's a thought. Neotel, bring a fast product, and either let me roll-over what I don't use--and provide and automatic top-up, or make an unlimited product available, both these products at, at least 50% lower than what you currently charge.

Whoever provides above product/s will be a winner for the following; they'll have created a product I and [most probably most Internet users want] and they'll have brought the costs to their clients down considerably. And likely made money for themselves. And they'll cause other providers to follow. Effectively creating a healthier telecoms market in SA.

And if they do that you will still find something to complain about...

If Telkom dropped the line rental portion of their adsl they would be back in the game. I dont mind paying R200 for adsl with a 1GB cap. I do mind the extra R130 a month for something I dont use.

So you are not using the copper wires? How is your data travelling? Wireless?

Sorry, I am just fed up with everyone complaining.

EDIT: I actually do not mind the monthly tariff to be connected. But that tariff already caters for my connection and traffic (even though it might be contended with 20 or 50 other people). So why must I pay again for the usage. But at least the usage costs will drop a lot as soon as seacom is operating...

Ok, but what has calling got to do with the router / data only service?

Read the Neotel ads at the top of these pages. their whole sales strategy is "Neotel provides multiplay services - voice, data and internet over one high bandwidth network".....provided you only use one at a time if you are a residential client.

*with sarcasm* but why would you want to do all three at once?

Most people with half a brain are able to answer the phone while replying to e-mail or surfing the net or gaming.....

Hey Neohell

Even the Souties are able to do more than one thing at a time....
