Yes they do brake well if that's what you're asking?

Maintenance will depend on mileage done etc and how you drive also,but in general it's not gonna cost you significantly more than say a polo 6 to maintain.Also where you service it will factor in,a good indie is much cheaper than BMW usually.

As for the fun part I believe the other 2 posters have answered that for you.

My Car is about R160k and im paying 1.5k comprehensive per month, not my first time taking out although i was 25 when i took it out.

Try the takectrl app, best price I got. They give you quotes from multiple companies, unlike hippo which quotes you all from the same company lol ( Seems hippo did add more insurance companies, through most of them is still the same)

Any alternative to 320d? not many available on the market atm at my price range :/ am looking at 2015 models, possibly with m sport package. How is VW passat btw?
 
Rather invest the money in a deposit for a house, and buy a 2nd hand Honda Jazz. They keep their value really well. And you can drive anywhere with it, without wondering about the fuel bill, or spending money on fines.

For any of the cars you want to buy, since you're young and it's a sporty kid racer car, the insurance will be sky high.

A car's value decrease fast, yet the Jazz keeps its value pretty well because so popular and well built. You will get more value in owning property. Especially in Cape Town as property values increase by upto 14% per year (People in Gauteng would soon not be able to move here at the rate it increases.

Similar to Sydney (1 million AUD for a house, compared to Perth 350AUD per house).
 
Insurance companies will look at:
1. Type of car you buy
2. Where do you stay
3. Where the car will be parked
4. Any fines or other bad driving habits
5. Definately your age

Buy anything sporty you're toast. If it's just you single even a Mini Cooper S would do, but the servicing fees would be sky high. With Hyundai at least you get a 7 year/200 000km warranty. So you can drive anywhere with it. The Jazz is more small but family car, but can go anywhere, without having to spend a lot on fuel.

With property these days, you would need to slap in a bigger deposit. I would concentrate on that, unless you want to keep on renting, which is really just money wasted.
 
Sporty cars loose more money. My friend bough a range rover for 1.2 million, sold it 2.5 years later for R400k. So lost R800k over 2.5 years.

He ended up buying a Honda Jazz, hasnt been happier since. Bought it for R100k, sold 4 years later for R95k.

Honda Jazz's seems to be great in keeping value.

I have driven an Impreza WRX. A real owner's car. Bough for R350K for a WRX, sold 3 years later for R120k, took me 3 months to sell it. It had barely 50ks on the clock. I had to replace the tyres for R14k because the edges was wearing thin. It hogged more fuel than my friend's 4.4l Range Rover Vogue (17l per 100kms).

So yes, went for a Mini Cooper S afterwards. I spent less on the mini car payment with fuel, than the R12k per month fuel bill that I was paying.

I would never go back to Subaru. Nice car yes, but it's like a Sieve for money.

BMW service can set you back upto R25k per service annually if you service it via BMW. They replace everything that's not 80% perfect.

Not answering the OP's question in the first place. What if he owns 5 fully paid off apartments in Sandton or Cape Town CBD and asked about what car should he/she buy next... :ROFL::ROFL:

But seriously though I think it would be odd to see someone with fully paid apartments in big cities looking for advice on his first car.
