First election results in

It's okay to talk about race, nothing wrong with that. It's a fact that around 90% of white people vote for DA, and they despise VF because it's backwards thinking, and they despise ANC for various other reasons.

Irrelevant of race you can vote for any party.

The current Gauteng results are surprising.

ANC - 52.93%
DA - 31.6%

Didn't realize the DA had such strong support there :wtf:

It looks to me as if the DA took about 10% of the ANC votes in GP :)

2014
ANC 2 079 970 0 52.69%
DA 1 259 931 0 31.92%

2009

ANC 2 814 277 31 64.76%
DA 924 211 10 21.27%

Well now all of us are going to be paying for his KFC meals :(

Lol. We were already. Only now it's directly rather than via corruption. Also he doesn't eat kfc. Only the best Sandton establishments for him...

True, but white people have limited options on who to vote for, it's not like they will vote for VF, so the DA didnt have much to do to keep the white vote. The coloured vote was pretty sealed when they merged with the ID and ANC disintegrated in the WC with the black-led ANC faction of Skwatsha fighting with the coloured led faction of Fransman. So they only really had to focus on the indian vote in KZN, which I think they did well, and they had to fight for the black vote. In all probability, the EFF had more black votes than the DA did, and that is not good enough, taking into account the ad campaigns, favourable media coverage, WC good-story angle, etc.

The DA is in a tough situation now, because they can't grow their coloured base anymore so they really have to make a push for the black vote. Will they relent on their tough EE stance and risk losing whites? I think they have no choice if they want to rule the country. And remember Zuma is leaving, and the next guys in line are scandal free, and in Ramaphosa's case have very good credentials to attract minority votes. So it's not gonna easy for the DA moving forward.

The DA will never win majority against tha ANC with the DA and ANC being the only two forces on the field. As you rightly said 95% of whites vote for the DA, the same goes for the ANC - 80%+ of blacks vote for them. By sheer racial numbers the DA does not stand a chance. The voting is very much racially based, just have a look at the Western Cape where most of the regions have 90% DA votes, but inbetween you have little block of 90% green votes and you will see these are the black township areas even in the smaller suburbs. The only way the DA will have majority is if another party comes in like the EFF that materially takes from the ANC votes. The DA can then get to 40% and outscore the ANC that way. Thus have most seats but not majority on its own. The other option is to lose some of its whiteness in appearance (which they tried with merging with Agang). But it will be hard to convert ANC voters to DA.

DA got 800 000 black votes, securing 6% of the black vote. Up from 0.8% of the black vote in 2009.

I believe the urban blacks will more likely vote for the DA as they would have professional jobs & do not rely on government so much.
