Fixed IP address

Nothing, it is merely an assignment of static rather than pool. It's the fact ISP's don't want users hosting services on home packages.

IP's are limited in number. Having an address allocated to an offline user is a waste of resource.

Except that Africa (AfriNIC) has over 26 Million IPV4 addresses available still.

We'll damn!

I wish I could get a static IP
Then get an ISP that offers static IP. There is no advantage of running Static IP'S at home. I might even go as far as saying that it might be a risk.

I want a free one I am cheap like that.

Reason why I want one. I assume this is what they are used for?

I have a spare pc.

2 gigabit lan port
4Gb DDR3 1866Mhz
64Gb SSD Corsair
Intel core i3 something something

I want to practice setting up servers with that badboy. Like VPSs I want to learn how to be less dependant on Cpanel if that makes more sense.

why do you need a static IP for that?

You can get a cheap vps for R99 a month. Run your DNS and basic mail services off there. For the rest of stuff use shared hosting. Learn how to use vi.

ESC wq

That would be a waste. Just get something like DynDNS or No-IP and it will allow you to do what you want to do with little to no issues.

Sweet stuff.

Okey so then what are static IPs used for??

I'm going to get one from domains it's the best. Probably the vm1 for practice then when I am ready to host the vm2.

Or I'll get the vm2 from domains and then for testing get a El cheapo from OVH.

Okey what is the other stuff you guys mentioned ESC etc?

As for vi

Are you serious or just joking because I can't find much documentation on it that makes any sense so not sure why one would punish oneself like that.

I develope on windows/Linux using phpstorm or brackets and then ftp to the sever so no need to edit on the server assuming that's why you recommend vi?

In which case I'll just use nano if I need to edit documents in the cli
