Flat-rated mobile data packages for streaming music

BIS is slow, will Simfy work properly the way it's intended to?

Streaming, shmeaming. The offline mode works just fine, it's not as if there aren't enough places out there that offer cheap/free Wifi.

Doesn't affect me. Wifi gets the job done perfectly.

i think of all the networks cellc is the one posed to benefit from this music platform. I hope cellc take this chance but not make a rushed job of it.

This wont work, I dont believe music that is streamed is compressible, its like trying to compress an mp3.

Unfortunately I don't think they will be able to offer this service to mobile phones in SA, operators wont allow R160 avg to slip them by an hour :erm:

What does the music being compressed have to do with anything? Have you ever tried streaming radio on your mobile phone at 32KB/s? How's the quality? Someone with with EDGE (236Kbps) can stream this quite well.

Why would mobile operators not agree with it, if they're striking a deal (which could benefit both parties) with Simfy? I mean DSTV just did it, watching the channels at www.mtnplay.co.za is zero-rated.

It's revenue they're currently not receiving precisely because of the high cost. They'd be crazy not to take advantage of this...

it will cost R12.75 on Cell C. on MTN and Vodacom it could cost R170.

Title fail.

Should have rather asked the question in the title:

Is there flat-rated mobile data packages for streaming music?

You connect to a bunch of WIFI spots occasionally to listen to music? I'd much rather be able to connect while I'm on the road to listen to my fav. internet radio stations (instead of the SA stuff) on the vehicle radio. Nobex is my fav. BB client. I wonder how long until we see internet radio's making their debut in the average family car.

+1. The bitrate is pretty much set.

No, I organise my music on my PC and make the playlists available offline on my S3 before I leave the house. Like syncing an iPod except it's wireless. If there are one or two tracks I want to listen to on the move that aren't in a playlist, the data charges aren't worth bothering about.

How about month to month cheap uncapped on mobile devices.. I have used already more than 1gb of data on my Android phone.. and bearly done anything.

Then your sync and backup options are chewing through your data. 1GB a month isn't difficult to reach on Android (if you don't revolve around wifi), but you should definitely be aware of where it's going. Just check your data settings for an app by app breakdown. My 3G use is a maximum of 120MB a month and usually 30-60MB.
