Flat-rated smartphone data packages are difficult says Vodacom

All I want is for 8ta to announce that their 2+1GB for R150 is now standard pricing (not promo), and I will port.
 
I bought a 2GB advanced bundle from Vodacom at the beginning of April.
With quite frequent use (even Youtube) it has lasted until the 26th of May I think (almost 2 months)

Tomorrow I will buy another bundle and see how long it lasts if I leave my data connection on permanently.
I have WiFi access at home and my phone uses that during the night, so it's not using 3G all the time
 
Make the R150 2 gig deal available to all. Prepaid contract or topup. Then you will see the money rolling in. Now i am paying 149 at 8ta. Whey the hell should i pay 289 for the same thing.
You are just peeing of people with the special.
Saterday i will be at 8ta for the 10gig deal.

These are the same 'Yanks' that are all backing out of uncapped, then? Wonder what lesson they learnt?

yep but with a phone that has facebook, gmail, twitter and a few other programs using data in the background that 250meg vanishes in the first week.
No chance of actually using youtube (standard app on my phone) as one example, another would be that I would not be willing to use Navigation because a drive from here to Jhb and back would cost me in the region of R60 to R120 on OOB (just with maps, never-mind actual satellite views).

luckily I have uncapped wi-fi at work and a wi-fi 3g router at home or for this months playing on my hone I would be looking at a R4000+ phonebill, yes, I managed to download and upload in the region of R2.5GB in a month.

I have a really awesome (yet crippled by the cost of using it's features) device.

My Wife has a 500meg bolt on, simply due to background data she has to disable all data by the 15'th of each month or expect another R1000 on top of her regular monthly bills.
 
Vodacom's way of saying they haven't found a way to screw their customers over in a flat rate data package

I don't think you really can compare SA vs American 3g Data costs, they may be going capped (or some of them may be trying to go capped at any rate) but when they say cap it's usually capped in the GB range and also much more than anyone could reasonably use (with obvious exceptions) and also well priced.

It always amuses me to see people in the industry with this backward thinking. If you market it as uncapped you can't complain when people use it as uncapped and you find out that your network can't handle the load.

Don't lie to your customers and then claim that they are abusers.
 
The first thing we need to do is get rid of this nonsense of data expiring. If I've paid for it I should get to use it or get a refund.

Amazing how much worse off we are than other 3rd world countries...

My business partner in Namibia laughs at us. His Samsung Galaxy S2 on Leo cost him N$690/month. For that he gets 500 minutes, 200 SMS and 1Gb of data.

A Samsung Galaxy S2 on VC's Talk 500s costs R800/month with 500 minutes, 100 SMS and 250Mb of data.

He has uncapped 3G through Telecom Namibia which costs him N$999/month.

His wife has a 10Gb data contract also with Telecom Namibia which costs N$550/month. VC's rate? R1449/month.

If I could add on 10Gb/month for US$80 I'd be very happy and you are welcome to cap it, provided you CAP it and not tell me your system is incapable of killing the OOB shark.

Jannie you've mentioned middle ground, where has VC ever given us middle ground? You balk at a figure of 300gb, so what? Bandwidth isn't a scarce item that need dishing out by the spoonful anymore, we have a deluge of bandwith coming into the country. Penetration? Thanks to Telkom being such a momumental frackup the mobile operators are showing data growth figures of I think I read 20% pa, and still you cannot make a plan? The smaller operators are making a joke of you.

Nah, Vodacom's just being what we've come to expect of them.
