Flying in Style!

Paid extra to upgrade WORLD TRAVELLER PLUS, with BA from cpt to heathrow.

Hoping this was worth R8000 :p

Anybody flew that route recently? Seems they using A350
Yep i've done WTP and CW a few times when i used to try boost my Oneworld Miles. I'm now focusing on SkyTeam lol. R8000 is not bad at all.

I'm flying to Canada for holiday end of the year and I'm looking at an R18k upgrade fee to Premium Economy - which is also not too bad considering. (that's on Air France)

WTP is good, and the cabin is more private and for the most part i had no screaming kids which was worth the price already. Food i think is from Business Class too. You also get priority boarding.

I've flown the A350 and A380 on the BA routes. Honestly I'de take the A350. The A380 is nice don't get me wrong, and she can handle a good wallop of turbulence given that sheer size without the mid-tail sections becoming a rollercoaster as much as smaller planes, but the A350 finishes feel better, and it doesn't feel as cramped although its not like the seat pitch is any different. And of course the A350 is miles ahead tech wise.

A350?
BA have always used ancient planes to CT.
20+ year old 777-200's. Including the one that's door was ripped off and repaired. Before that it was the even older 747's. I think the -200's got new cabins in 2021.

The experience is generally decent but nothing like Qatar (but then you get the super rushed (45m) or long (8h) layover.

For nearly a year now. But yeah, they had those 747s since Moses was a lad.
Not to CT. I plane spot everyday and I can always tell its the -200's as they take off at such a gentle gradient compared the the -300's and 350's. The a340 is also a dog climb rate wise.

Just checking back in my flights folder, 21 Nov 2022, BA 42 was the A350-1000. I remember it because the one BA pilot I follow on Twitter had flown it a week or two earlier before I flew on it.

Return flight BA59 on 3rd Dec was a 777-200/300 according to the itinerary I'm looking at now, but to be fair I can't recall which one or much of the flight for that matter as I was pretty sick with Covid on it.

I think that must be one of the additional seasonal flights. The regular is BA 58/59 and that's always a 777 these days afaik.

Leaves cpt 18.45pm on 22 Dec Friday.

Interesting, looks like BA 58 but it's the A350 scheduled as you say.

I wonder if the A350 only comes into play when the extra BA 42/43 flights are operating.

I've gone from saying I'd never spend more on upgrading seats and would far rather spend it on the holiday to trying to see what upgrades I can get at every opportunity, especially travelling with kids. This mostly involves grovelling at check in counters with wide eyed cute children hopefully playing their part. The flight is part of the holiday after all.
It's also why if possible I'd pay extra for a direct flight. My children can handle a long flight. They go crazy (or crazier than normal) if it's a long flight followed by a short one.
Anyway R8k extra is not too bad in my opinion but also depends on you and the time of the trip. For an overnight flight I fall asleep pretty easily so I might not bother upgrading. For others the extra quality of sleep would be important.
But all in all you're going to the UK, it's less than 400 quid which is like two beers so good value I reckon.

I got one of these last year and it has changed my flying life....

As someone who could never sleep on a plane no matter how tired I was, even on a recent 14 hour Miami to Doha, 2 whiskies, a glass of wine and then lights out. They are absolute genius.

:) never seen that type before.
I've fallen asleep with my head resting on that window right there.

Only other thing I'd add OP, once you go this route it's hard to go back to regular seats :)

The A340 only climbs because the earth is curved :p the earlier models hairdryers didn't do much to help this.

Out of CPT the 777's probably use reduced takeoff power, but out of Joburg you can see the turbines glowing red as the aircraft come over you especially on the longer routes like Delta's Atlanta flight. There have been a few summer days where delta has actually left cargo behind to stay in WAT imposed limits
