Hi

Has anyone used FNB Connect's Uncapped ADSL service? What have been your experiences with them? I'm considering changing over to them but am unsure about how they shape/throttle, what their general speed quality is and how it will perform with high bandwidth applications like torrents, youtube, skype and gaming. Any feedback will be welcome.

Thanks

Free up to 4mbps...
And I believe they throttle torrents heavily.

any1 using them and have experience with netflix??
Curious to know if netflix is throttled as well

i used to use them because the discount was great... Hulu streaming was absolute rubbish... netflix was ok but then turned out rubbish... i had a 4mb uncapped with them, they said they dont throttle/shape streaming, but thats a lie everyday at 7am my internet will stop working, use my capped account and it worked fine, switch to uncap and dead and had to reset my router every single day... apparently you can use a max of 3 gig a day... oh and dont forget, torrents are absolutely dead...

I use another ISP now, and so far its been great... i stream 90% of the time with a few downloads here and there and im happy to pay that extra bid, i almost never have to reset my router for the internet to work

Thanks for the feedback...really helpful. I am on level 4 which means i get 80% discount, so would pay about R80 a month for uncapped 4mbps line. Thats really cheap but if torrents are dead and stability is a real issue, I don't think its worth it...Thanks

Pity, I was thinking about signing up for this. No matter the discount level, if they kill torrents and you need to reset your router often, it is a no sell for me.

Do I just use the fnbConnect website login details to access the uncapped account? That is, change the username and password on the router to my FNBConnect login details?

Don't think its the same as those. Those are to log in to the website. Log in to the website fnbconnect.co.za, click on "accounts". Here you should see your adsl account and the username for it. You can reset the password on it, by going to "Settings" on the left, choose the adsl username, and reset the password there for it. Then you should have the login details that you need to enter on the router.

So, i'm not the only one who believe that, in spite of being free, it's completely and utterly pointless. Literally everything is shaped and throttled to the end degree and you cannot do much. Hence being free i suppose.

Kinda makes the entire thing redundant. I just feel "What's the point?"

Works most of the time just fine for me. Sure I can't use torrents or DC++ on it, but usenet works just fine for downloads. Everything else seems fine too, can browse, stream, play games if I really wanted to. Not sure how that is useless?

Since yesterday, I cant play games(Blizzard) via FNBconnect, anybody else also having this issue?

I tried to play on the 10th Oct CS:GO or Chivalry and it didn't show games available than I played previously.

Switched a few days ago from a capped 50GB account with Afrihost to the FNB uncapped 4mbps.
FNB so far absolutely rubbish. I can download torrents through a VPN - but painfully slow.
Sometimes I can't even open facebook, news24, weathersa!

Was trying to save a few bucks. So far, not worth it! I have been conducting line speed tests at various time of the day. Mornings are the worst, getting 400kbps - on a 4 Meg line!!!! Eish!
