Without prior warning/advice FNB now bill 50c for 'notification' for all transactions - just found this out when transfering money to a family members FNB account.

I then went to personal details on the web site and found that you cannot deselect SMS notification.
All the notifications to payees I managed to deselect.

Waiting for their response to my web site complaint.

You get charged for fax/sms notification, but not email. And I always use email notification.

You mean their Free InContact?

That's right - free InContact on my SuperSaver account that has no monthly charges and six transaction free transactions if the balance is kept above R6000

While I wait for the response from FNB I increased the amount before notifications are used to R199999.99

This is the charge: #NOTIFICATION FEE E-MAIL

Is this on all accounts? What notifications do these include? All of them? Drawing money, paying with debit card?

it still claims to be free...

Standard Bank charges even for email advice of payments to your beneficiaries/payees...how they justify that is anyone's guess. Oh, wait - it falls under the "we'll rape the customer in any way we can" heading...

i think incharge is still free (notifications you receive regarding activity on your account) - what could be charged for is notifying a recipient of a payment to their account

That's how I understand it too.

I've always been charged for sending a notification to a recipient via fax or SMS.

Is this not just for notifying recipients of payments?

Last week I paid a new payee without receiving this charge.

Today I paid a long time payee, a family member also with FNB, and this resulted in the first and only notification charge #NOTIFICATION FEE E-MAIL

This payee was not selected for notifications and my email notification has been selected for years with no charge.

Notice that the charge states
#NOTIFICATION FEE E-MAIL
while the site sates that email notification is free with SMS costing 50c.

In that case - and until this is cleared up - I'm switching to email notifications.

Edit - :o it was already set to email :o
