Fog Lamps.....

I'm sure that the guys at Subaru will be highly amused that our wonderful Mr Roux thinks that they are part of the VAG Empire! :rolleyes:

The law also says that lights should be on 30 minutes AFTER sun set. We are not dealing with the brightest of people here, but you wouldn't realise that I suppose...

I really fail to see how that is relevant to the point of you being a VAG owning Scooby driving wanna-look-cool-with-my-fog-lights-on f-tard.
 
This is not a comeback line contest, this is about people that just don't give a crap about the law and want to look cool with their fog lights on which in turn annoys other road users.
If you really have the need to try and look cool by breaking the law why not drive without your seatbelt on or put a massive triple wing on the back of your car. That way you are only messing yourself up, but your fog lights in non foggy conditions is a real nuisance for others and thus the law was made.

Your obsession with my individuality (non-VAG conformance) and superior choice in cars really has no place here - save them for one of my anti-VAG or pro-GM threads.
 
Roux, I'm not the one who is obsessed here, so don't let's get confused on that count. As far as looking cool with fog lights on, well that has to one of the most pathetic things you have ever said . I run with fog lights on at night to improve night vision, as they fill in the area directly in front of the car. During the day, they are one way of not blinding oncoming motorists, but remaining visible.

I do not have to drive around trying to look cool in order to impress people.

I repeat, I run with lights on to be visible...end of story, now put a sock in it and go and bug someone else.

That's one of the daftest reasons I've heard of. Have you ever bothered to work out what the range of the foglights is (you get about 5 metres), and then how slowly you have to be going to be able to react in time to something coming within the range of the foglights? I'll give you a clue: at 60kph, you're covering almost 17 metres per second.

And yet, while the foglights don't help the driver much, because they don't have cut-off lenses they're bright (typically as bright as normal headlights) to oncoming drivers, putting those drivers at risk.
 
Good luck getting that into his head. Once he has made his mind up about something he won't change it and all you will get in response from him is snide personal remarks. But I do agree with you on the use of fog lights. In heavy fog when your speed is below 80km/h they do help a lot. I have been over Sir Lowry's Pass a few times in my old man's Mercedes and fog lights made a huge difference as opposed to doing it in my Astra with no fog lights. Guess those were the only times the Merc's fog lights were on.

I'm on Fadza on this one. The fog lights in front does give extra light and fall on areas where the normal headlights don't. Drive without your fog light on a dark street, and the switch them on and see how much more you can see. Even at higher speeds.

And no offence, I'd rather blind an oncoming car and make his flash me, than him not see me and hit me. What's worse?

Just for the sake of arguing with accurate information at hand, that's incorrect. ;)

Please note that rain is not mentioned as the road surface is very reflective when it rains and this worsens the problem of fog lights.

So there you have it. Lucky for you Fazda there is no law for being tasteless, classless and unimaginative (aka driving a VAG) but there is a law against the improper use of fog lights.
