Fog Lamps.....

It's really pointless trying to argue with you lot of foglight drivers. How can we possibly expect you to be reasonable when you 1) don't give a crap about the law and 2) don't give a crap about other road users.

I really don't know why we even bother. The only thing that is effective against your type is swift action with a steel cap boot in a parking garage.

OK... let's for a moment try to recover to a slightly more serious line of conversation here...

I don't have much regard for legislation of any kind; my actions are not led by it as I do not base my decisions on how to act on a day-to-day basis on written law. I view myself as a fairly logically inclined person and as such, I will use my own subjective judgement in order to decide on my actions. This has served my quite well for my entire existence.

Now, to say I don't give a crap about other road users is demonstrably false; I don't go around blinding people with my rear fog light, I give way to bikers & other road users wherever it is safe for me to do so, even if they happen to be travelling above the speed limit, I don't hog right-hand lanes, I've even been known to assist with breakdowns and flat tyres on the roadside. I actively try to cause as little impedance to others on the road as possible.

Now, back to the point of discussion: I have not suffered the slightest inconvenience from others who choose to use their front fogs in normal driving; I have at the hands of people who don't bother adjusting their normal lights properly. I have nearly been blinded off the road by people who don't know when to dip their lights though, and I find this a much more annoying issue. However, if anyone ever approaches me and complains about my fog lights dazzling them, I'll re-evaluate my stance. Until such time, I allow myself to be led by my own experience, whereby it's really a non-issue.

What about bikers that use their lights to be more visible? I'm tempted to drive with my brights on at all times because I've had one too many close encounters with people not seeing me while riding behind some git with his Fog's on.

I actually don't care if you idiots prefer to drive in the dark, I like to see what is ahead of me, end of story.

Those of you saying that fogs don't make a difference have obviously never driven a car with fogs and seen the difference, so I will just put that down ignorance...enjoy...

This is the ignorant reply of the day. I'd expect nothing less from a car salesman.

Any evidence for this? Far as I have it what I've just explained entails that fog lights should cast light down from their mounted position... not up?

Go and take a look at some sometime. Take a look at the design. I find that most foglights are as bright as headlights, when seen from a normal position in another car, and this despite them supposedly being pointed downward.

Your foglights dazzle me.

Thanks.

Interesting topic...
Does normal headlights bother those who are concerned with fog lights?

Not at all, if they are not too high. You'll quickly find that out if you get flashed at night while your brights are off.

I would think so. If those tiny fog-lights are such an issue, the stronger headlights must be really devastating to the eyes.

Okay that is a stupid comment, it's not the size of the light that counts but how it is designed and used, but yeah arguing with the foglight brigade seems to be like bashing your head against the wall, ultimately pointless and definitely masochistic.

Fog lights by European standards have to be a lower candle power to that of the low beams.
Lower candle power because "yellow" light is more suitable to foggy conditions. They are not as bright or brighter than the low beams, they just used to give light "below" the fog.
Any light shone into fog will reflect back hence they lower application to the vehicle.

If you eyes are affected by the foglights of other cars, especially during the day, I would suggest the nearest optometrist.
But really I just think some posters are being pedantic about the whole issue and backing up their poor eyesight with SA driving laws.

Look at your comment. Back to mine. Back to yours NOW BACK TO MINE. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate crap it could LOOK like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through comments, finding the ones that your comment could look like. Back at mine, what is it? It's a highly effective counter-troll. Look again, MY COMMENT IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Anything is possible when you think before you comment or post.

I'm on a computer.

There fixed it for you.

Eyes are designed to adjust to changes in ambient light. A bright light shining in your eyes will cause your pupils to close, hence you will be able to see less.
Failure to do so means that your eyes are broken.

:D add to that their minds for failing to deduce the usage of these lights from their name.

Drive lights are for ......
Park lights are for .....
Fog lights are for .....

Questions like those are high grade for them.
