Fourways internet - DOWN

UPDATE: just got off the line with someone at telkom (who didn't sound happy) after stating that the latency is very high on my line making downloading a pain, even for local stuff, she asked what my address is, and after I told her she said that there is problem at the Eastleigh exchange that started on the weekend some time.

A "Network Fault" there and they are working on saying that should be fixed during the course of the week. I'm hesitant to believe her, but what can you do?

I will try phone again tomorrow and see what they say. Problem is I'm off to CT for a week and will only get back in a weeks time.

Sidenote: My wife is at home all day and she said that the line has been "normal" (general browsing and downloading of documents) but just after 5 it got a lot slower.

HellooPietie will achieve nothing.

Please Dear Telkom. Fix your screw up so we can get on with our lives.

EDIT: Lets keep this thread to Fourways issues please.

Do you have an idea what type of work this entails, and how long they reckon it should take to fix?

Last update I got is the IMAX DSLAM I'm connected to is provisioned with 150Mbps of backhaul, but is only utilising 30Mbps.

Logically then the issue is either the DSLAM can't accept traffic at a rate > 30Mbps (unlikely), or something in the upstream path from ESR->MetroE ring->DSLAM is overloaded, misconfigured or broken, resulting in only a constricted 30Mbps rate reaching the DSLAM.

Hope they figure it out soon.

No idea really, suppose depends on the nature of the fault.

If its identified to be something minor like misconfiguration or a devices(s) just needing a reset, one would hope it would be reasonably quick (not happening). However its some sort of device/component failure who knows, especially if large (unbudgeted) sums are involved and/or replacement hardware required from an overseas vendor.

MickeyD made a comment on the first page of this thread:

"Probably struggling to commission and synchronise all the MSAN's that were installed in the FWS area.... a major problem, especially as this is the pilot project."

Is there any more information regarding this? If our issues are related to a upgrade project then (in my mind), it give me some justification towards the week long outage if we are all better off at the end of this saga.

@Roman4604 (in an un-related question), what system do you use to generate those graphs Roman? MRTG?

Hey everyone, no further posts since 11:52?

So are you all up and running and no longer having to post at mybroadband :-) According to Mweb's site it is resolved?

Am at work and dont have remote connection to my house. Please tell me it is sorted!

Someone from Telkom (techie) phoned me this morning, asked me to check my ping, was still at 1300ms. He vented and said they were supposed to upgrade the infrastructure last night to add more bandwidth, he didn't sound happy. Apparently they were supposed up up the bandwidth from 150 to 180 Mbps.

a) they didn't do it
b) they tried and messed it up

Don't you mean they were supposed to upgrade it by 150Mbps? As per Roman:

"Last update I got is the IMAX DSLAM I'm connected to is provisioned with 150Mbps of backhaul, but is only utilising 30Mbps. "

I am still fooked. Over 1300 ping to JHB.

FAIL TELKOM IS FAIL

Well hellooo,

1361ms latency. Contending to get the shout out! I have alrady cleaned the study, re-wired the computer / modem / chargers, cleaned the pool, bathed the dog, btihcnig about dtsv and started cooking suppers!!, serously, starting to work late and all kinds of weird,

Am wondering, what is the contention ration with 180mb uplink, 1/100, 150, 300?, 500?

Can badmouth the communication (or lack thereof), to internal staff and end-users, but at the end of the day, am now synching at 4MB without drops (before the outage only 2MB),

Worth the hassle

Thanks Telkom, moving (slowly) in the right direction
