Free Wikipedia access on MTN

What a shame wiki is not a viable source for assignments :D

All jokes aside, kudos to them for enabling better info sharing to those who can't always afford it.

Very good move on MTN's side.

I do have issues with Wiki... trolls have parked them in there nowadays and activists (some which is moderators) change published articles however they see it to be. Wiki is an excellent guideline, but do gather other sources (or even research the sources in the Wiki page). The last being them mysteriously owning the content which is anyway sourced or altered.

I have 2 SIMs: Cell c for everything and MTN for the rare occasions when people can't get a hold of me. I only use it to receive calls so hardly buy air time. Currently it has R0 credit and 0 MB data. I just tried wikipedia.com et voila! Failed to connect to the internet. That means there's insufficient funds in my MTN account. Can anybody else confirm that the wiki wap/website is freely accessible on their phone? And does this include tethering on our pc's?

cool.. wonder if they will claim MTRs allow providing these niceties ;)

A step in the right direction and most likely a marketing ploy but still a good move MTN,now become more competitively priced and we may just forgive you for your past raping of the SA consumer.

Why exactly isn't wiki free across the board?

Its a valuable resource and doesn't use that much b/w. One would expect the companies to push that as a social program...

See the fine print below the video: Note: Wikipedia will only be free when accessed through Opera Mini. This will be effective from the end of the month.

I have never used Opera Mini, but apparently it works on these phones: http://choice.opera.com/mobile/download/nokia/#active
