Fresh Apple iPods launched

You can't play any worthwhile game on a touch screen, Ive tried. It's nice for taking a dump and that's about it. Same goes for any "cell phone" game.

There are some amazing games on the iPhone and iPod touch. And with the new retina display, and most games on the store costing between R8 and R80, I think the iPod touch is way better than the PSP.

Just installed iTunes 10 and guess what? The Ping feature doesn't work in SA.

And they wonder why there is so much piracy...

Yeah I agree. I like apple and am saving for a macbook, but I wouldn.t buy an ipod touch. If I buy an mp3 player I only want to play mp3s .

Since when does an iPod not play mp3's? My iPhone plays it just fine, and it uses the same architecture

Edit: Oh wait, just re-read, and I may have missed the plot. You mean you want it to ONLY play mp3’s, and not do all sorts of other weird stuff?

Apple appears desperate to be innovative ... but there direction's confusing me. The only Apple product I might ever get it the iPod ... but solely to be a music player. If I want a phone, I'll look for a Nokia, Blackberry, HTC or Samsung to fill that spot ;)

What a joke - desperate ? Apple have been leaders in techno hardware for probably about 7 years now, and the others have followed. Look at the iPod, the iPhone with it's touch control interface - I see iPhone clones made by other manufacturers all around, iPad - now everyone is trying to build their own tablet with touch interface. Desperate - I don't think so

You must have been living under a rock somewhere if you think Apple are desperate to be innovators

+1.....some of the games are no fun on a touch screen.
If I wanted a portable gaming device I would not buy an Ipod ....would get a psp instead
as an Ipod touch owner ....I think apple should have actually bumped up the storage capacities, and actually work on the sound quality of the music from ipods...
When I play a high quality mp3 file on a sony mp3 player and an ipod classic and touch using the same headphones(klipsch x10)....the quality of sound from the sony sound much better.

Well music sounds great on my Sennheiser HD-555's through my iPhone 3GS. Just downloaded Epic Citadel demo. It runs the Unreal Engine 3 with antialiasing, and looks astonishing. The controls are quite easy, like dual analog sticks. Check the screenshots:

Maybe you're just no good at games…

HELLO! All of the functions built into Ping revolve around the iTunes Music store. What did you think was going to happen?

No-one's forcing you to buy it. If you're so unhappy then get a Windows Phone System 7 device.

I wonder how many people will use an iPod to talk through skype? It might actually be a cool "indoor phone". :|

Well I see the iPod Touch as a cool camera that plays music and not a music player that takes photos.
It might have been if they hadn't put such a poxy little camera in it. Come on 960 x 720? That's not even 1MP.

If they'd put the iPhone's camera in it then that might have been a different story.

It's not even advertised as a still camera anywhere on Apple's site. It's too thin for a good quality still camera, and even if Apple could put it in, it would be to close to the iPhone 4. Gotta differentiate them product lines!

Still, the selling point for me is the Retina display™.
960 x 640 IPS @ 326 PPI ... droool

Not really true, they have never invented anything, they just take an idea, that other people have done, fine tune it and then market the crap out of it as a new wonder must-have product... Then all the Apple Fanboys go and buy it, they make money, other people think they HAVE to get it because it is selling so good... And so the circle continues..

Look at the iPad, the concept has been around way before the iPad, Apple just market it way better, now other companies are making much better tablets but people are stuck on Apple...

It's a fact. Apple is a great marketing company, that's about it...

What's Ping got to do with Piracy?

Nothing, but those people who are not allowed to legally download material from iTunes, or interact with the artists on Ping, are just going to look for other ways of downloading their music.

I for one will never buy another CD or DVD ever again. iTunes should play fair globally, or expect their artists to be raped by pirates.

What rubbish. Apple make good products and that's the reason for their success. The original iPod was successful because of technical reasons. Smallest HDD player with best battery life and fastest transfer speed.

Care to name a tablet that I can buy that's better than the iPad? Or a PMP that matches the iPod touch's functionality? There still isn't a similar Android device.

Replace iTunes with Record Companies ;)

Get a US account and some iTunes vouchers, there you go. Or just ignore the iTunes store and buy from Amazon or whatever. I'm a pirate too, but I don't blame it on Apple.

Yea, like people have streamed to the AppleTV or the Macbook Air?
Like Synaesthesia said, show me a product thats better than the iPad. Just because YOU don't like it desn't mean it's a stupid product.

(ek kry jou jammer. hoop nie jy kry TE swaar in jou klein wêreldjie nie.)

And Microsoft better make sure that Xbox Live is free or else I'm going to distribute photocopies of Wired magazine.

I think Apple are big enough now to whip the record companies into shape. The problem is a lot of these artists have regional distribution agreements with the SA music industry. If Apple were to put pressure on the older artists to relinquish those rights in favour of a global digital distribution via iTunes, the record companies would become a thing of the past.

In fact any band who signs any deals with labels these days is doing themselves a major disservice. iTunes only take 25% of the proceeds of whatever downloads go through them, whereas if a band signed to a label to produce their work they are lucky if they see 5% of the total profit. So, as a band if you allow iTunes to distribute your material for you, all you really have to do is generate a following and people will pay.

The major problem with iTunes is that they aren't letting everyone use it properly, so we have to go another route.

um....I am talking about an Ipod which is a music player and you are telling me to get a win 7 phone...
did you even read my post?

Pixual: I think there is some benefit in signing with a Lable if you start off and arn't that famous yet, becuase then you can get some money to promote yourself. But still, Lables suck ass.
mith: I don't think the ipod touch is a music player anymore and i don't think Apple still see it as one. It is a pocket PC, especially now that it has Skype capabilities.

i've been pondering today as i'm listening to my nano most of the day, and i think the new ipod nano's volume switch will be less comfortable than the clickwheel. IMHO of course.
