Freshphone closing down

One thing I will forever be grateful for from Freshphone was that porting my landline number to Freshphone was literally the only way I could cancel my Telkom account. This was in the bad old days when Telkom made it almost impossible to cancel a landline. After numerous attempts to cancel my Telkom landline failed, I read on this forum that there was a loophole whereby if you ported your landline number over to a VOIP provider it would automatically cancel your Telkom account without you having to do anything. So that is exactly what I did, and lo and behold 2 months after porting I received my final Telkom invoice and my account was automatically cancelled, achieving something that I had tried to do myself for almost a year.

Lol gotta love loop holes, if only it were that easy to cancel a TV license.

Hi.

Yes, a letter of account confirmation will work. We have received confirmation from Telviva that we can port prepaid numbers as of today.

Thanks for confirming, good to know you guys are an option then for porting away from Freshphone.

I think I was the one writing about that loophole. I used that and found it canceled my account for me and posted about it.

Glad it helped others.

Sad to see Freshphone go. I use it to call South African numbers when I am abroad.

The trick is never to have gotten one in the first place ;) Once you're on that SABC database, you're on for life.
For life ?
Nope, the SABC's licenses have a necro clause ensuring billing continues well after life has expired.

Problem.

Afrihost responded with the following message with regards to porting a geographical number from Freshphone:

"We would have liked to port the number to us however the porting team are unable to port prepaid numbers at the moment.

If the number was not prepaid we would have been able to assist with the porting, unless the current provider can change the number from prepaid to postpaid."
Hi.

Please share the ticket ID.

What I do want to find out. If I DM you a geographical number would you be able to see if can get it still or if it is taken? Use to be my home number growing up but then copper theft happened and well eventually had no more copper in the area. I am talking 20+ years ago

Good morning xxxx

I trust you are well

Thank you for the documents.

Please be advised that your port request has been loaded.

It will take up to 14 working days for the porting request to be completed.

Please do advise if you need further assistance.

Thanks and take care

Have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else!

Message I just received from Afrihost's porting department after submitting my porting request yesterday to port my geographic landline number from Freshphone. I requested an authorization letter which had my Freshphone account number and the DID I wanted to port listed on it from Euphoria (Freshphone) and this was enough to satisfy Afrihost's porting department.
