FTTH - Blairgowrie - Vumatel

Correct on your assumption. The wan port must be an Ethernet port, not a phone line port.

Yeap so long as your router has a WAN port than you're good to go.

Why is it that Vumatel is so much more expensive than some of the other providers on Cool Ideas?

For example a 20/20 package is R899 on Vumatel and on DFA and Fibrehoods it is R899 for a 50/50 package!

Im guessing those that are cheaper are aerial type installations and Vuma is underground? If that is the case, isn't that price included in the once of fee from Vuma?

I would say GPON vs AON is one reason, trenching is another. In time it will get cheaper, but for now they need to recoup the cost of laying the fibre in our area.

Different line fees on different deployments dictate this. The once off fee Vumatel charges to pull the fibre from street level into the house is actually done at a loss.

Am frustrated as all hell with Vumatel. They've been promising me fibre for more than a year. Dug up the pavements multiple times, came over to discuss where to place their box on my building multiple times, arranged install dates multiple times, then cancelled each time saying that they don't do businesses only residential.
Around my office are houses, the fibre is running outside my building, but they don't do business installs ?

Yeah unfortunately it seems there is a bit of a conflict of interest between Vumatel and larger business blocks that are considered FTTB, which is then encroaching on DFAs Business. I am not sure how they define a "Business" building but if DFA has terminated into the building then Vumatel wont touch it.

Problem is that there isn't anyone else in the neighborhood and mine is the only office building amongst all the houses (I own the building). I've gotten a quote For FTTB and their quote includes a Vumatel connection to my building, so don't see why Vumatel can't do it themselves.

If Vumatel wont go into the building than your FTTB quote is useless as the service provider just quoted on the area you are in. They would have the same issue getting Vumatel into your building.

Drop me a mail on paul at cisp.co.za and I will see what we can do.

Seems to be an area outage in Blairgowrie at the moment. No FX light on CPE, reported by multiple residents

Good day All. Please be advised one of the ds switches at our Telsaf, Randburg POP is down. Our technicians are investigating the matter. Regards, The VUMA Team

The fact this was resolved so quickly is amazing.

Vumatel with CISP has been a dream.
