FTTH - Blairgowrie - Vumatel

Please note, that I could not confirm this with VUMA. Also, the BCA is distancing itself from this. It is unsolicited mail that was sent out.

What I can confirm, is that it is only for the first 300 customers, and after 3 months, no contract price has been given. The add itself does not adhere to the ASA standards

Mmm.... Thanks for the heads up. Will be avoiding this fir now.

So relieved trenching will resume shortly, was very nervous that reliance on CityPower was going to delay things! Best thing is my phase (12)'s timelines don't seem to have been affected! *Happy Dance*

Was expecting a lower ping, but who cares- I downloaded James Bond in 20 minutes!

You are doing a speedtest to durban, try one locally.

Yes sorry you are a part of our new IP space which ookla hasn't updated it's Geo location from, so it might test to random servers in SA for the next week or so. Try manually selecting a server in Johannesburg and it should be sub 5ms latency.

There we go. May I justs say that I am loving this? My games update in minutes(even seconds sometimes) and I am not experiencing lag. My ping to American gaming server went from 800ms to 200ms!! I am very happy.

Any1 have an inside scoop on Vuma's progress at restarting trenching... Been waiting for an update from them this week but no response, not even via twitter..

Next week it seems. My fibre deploy date was moved again today, from tomorrow till the 29th :(

Really getting a bit irritated about the date being moved all the time. But it was because of the trenching that they were not allowed to drill. Seems they can start drilling again next week

Thanks for the update, can imagine your frustrations at the installatiom delays.

I'm in the process of paving my area but decided to park it till I get the fibre installed. Will need a trench line in my property too so don't want Vuma having to repave the new paving. Sucks that I keep needing to postpone this due to the recent delays, and also dealing with my constant adsl cuts because of the rain.

If you do the trenching yourself, Vuma can bring the sleeves and put them under ground so you can carry on with your paving. Depends on how much you need trenched I guess.

You can put a conduit under your driveway, and just let them know before trenching. Then they pull all the cables through there.

Yep. Am looking forward to tje fibre for the following reasons listed in priority:

1. Stability in all weather conditions.
2. Cost (will actually cost less than my current adsl line even though I will get double my current speed and data)
3. Speed.

Stability is the main driver for me at this point. Sick of constant disconnects in bad weather and slower speeds afterwards. I don't even bother with Telkom anymore.
