FTTH Highlands North

Just got this in a email:

CAP together with Fibrehoods is pleased to announce that Greater Glenhazel (includes Sydenham, Sandringham, Rouxville and Orange Grove) is the next target area in Fibrehoods' aerial fibre network rollout plan. The plan to bring superfast internet to Greater Glenhazel commences right away. The initial steps begin with surveying the area, planning the deployment of the network and applying for wayleaves to plant the poles.

How do I contact them to see if they can extend to my area. I'm so close to Sandringham.

Pick us at CISP :).

Cool Ideas? I was actually thinking XDSL as they provide 100/100 uncapped unshaped for R1549 :)

I've read mostly good feedback on Cool Ideas. I think they coming to Norwood with Vulacom too.

Can you confirm PBCool?

Pricing from the Fibrehoods website... 75Mbps upload, not that you ever likely to really utilize that but nice to have nonetheless...

OK - its confirmed - Fibrehoods is putting up poles and fibre cable throughout Highlands North! Hooray!

I now want to find out what the overall cost is from the various vendors through Fibrehoods. They all offer 100Mb incoming, and mostly 50Mb up. That sounds good enough for me! The uncapped / unshaped suggestion is what I've been looking for because I want to use online backups.

Now what is the real difference between all the ISP's on offer? How do they each compare? The options available are:
MWeb
iConnect
CoolIdeas
XDSL
Vox
WebAfrica

Pricing all seems to be fairly similar.

I want to know if that is the complete price for complete connectivity, or whether there is an additional fee that Fibrehoods will charge.

Fibre up on street poles, quite a lot done with good momentum. No idea if they live yet.

Apparently site surveys are starting this week...

So unfair! Why are they not in Glenhazel/Lyndhurst yet :(

From what I hear Glenhazel is coming soon, Lyndhurst however is a whole other story. It seems the trend now for these networks Vuma/Fiberhoods is to concentrate on areas that have a high mix of residential and business. This is the only reason I could think why they would deploy first in Highlands North/Bramley before say Glenhazel.

How ever Telkom LTE has been very active in this area for some time now, so it will be interesting to see what type of uptake they (Fiberhoods) have.

Let me know if you have any questions around Cool Ideas offerings :)

PBCool, I see that you have updated the R999 offering to 100/100, sweeeeeeet! I actually cannot wait till fibre comes to me next. End of August we should start getting a better idea when we will start getting connected. Feels like it's taking forever.

Update:

Big signs saying my block is live!
Indoor splicing done
Outdoor splicing done

But I don't see a green light on my indoor splicing unit and still having a flashing wan light on my ONT...

The wait continues

So after my first post on 14 June...Fibre in my house is now working and live.

Speed test isn't amazing; well it's pretty good but when you promised 100/100 you can only disappoint I guess.

Not sure if it's meant to be faster....?

That's well below par!

Need to do a wired test though. What wireless router are you using?

It's a dual bank TP Link Web Africa supplied. I was standing right next to it...

Odd, I would still do a wired test, just to be sure. Also, manually select a different server. Not all speedtest servers are equal. Believe it or not...

EDIT: Who's your ISP? Cool ideas?
