Does anyone that was in touch with Vumatel got feedbacks on potential roll out in our area and time frame?

Vumatel were at one stage saying end of July but given Openserve will be live end of May its looking less likely.

Yes, got that too. I can't see the City of Cape Town giving them wayleaves while Openserve is busy though.

Pity that you have to wait for the line to be active before applying to an ISP - in my case it has taken more than 2 weeks to get the router - I expect more issues.

Spoke to vumatel beginning of week and they are in planning phase. They applying to city of cape town in less than 2 weeks. If all goes well they expecting to start rollout middle of May.

I signed up yesterday. It's good to hear they are planning to roll out in May.

Still 93 shows of interest required. Momentum has slowed down a bit, but there was a burst over the weekend.

78 left still. I also hope it's valid. Seems legit so far. Or the idiot that tried to move things along learned from last time :p

I don't think Vumatel follow those signup numbers religiously, it's probably just a way to prioritize future projects. That said, obviously passing the target is a good sign :)

Hmmm... sudden jump from 78 signups required last night, to 33 required this morning. I hope it's not another dumb attempt to artificially speed things along...

Seems like it. They've been surveying the area over the last few weeks already.
Apparently they do actually need the signups, but they're confident that they'll get it, hence why they started.

I'm thinking we won't get fibre in Oakdale for the next 3-5 years (if not longer)

I do see movement on the FTTH scene but it's moving slowly and only in the "Laanie" areas. Areas where it's gated community's or newly Built complexes or New Areas where the new lines are installed as "The standard"

Fibre optics is a standard <- Very high one

I'm also in Bellville (Oakdale Area) and stuck on ADSL 10mbit (my area says VDSL upto 10mbit... no one knows if we can actually use a VDSL modem)

Have you tried signing up with Vumatel? It doesn't look like Oakdale is on their radar yet, but maybe you can put it there? There are areas next to it that's apparently in the rollout stage, so they already have infrastructure in the area which will make it easier.

I think there's a DFA node in the Oakdale area above the N1, so maybe try contacting them. Or try looking at providers that use DFA (like Cybersmart).

I don't know about larnie, but Protea Valley and Door de Kraal are fairly old areas with ageing infrastructure. The biggest stumbling block here was that there are a seemingly significant number of older folks that aren't that interested in the internet, so getting the numbers to entice Vumatel took some time. If you're in an area with younger people, I reckon that process will go a lot quicker.
