so following a flyer given at Kenridge school, I contcated the Vumatel rep. He'll come see me on Monday to see how we can make progress in the area. Next in line are Eversdal and Stellenberg though.
We need to get at least between 40 and 50% interest to be considered...

We need about 15 more signups to reach 40%, and 55 more signups to reach 50%

I assume you mean 40-50% of the area. In that case we need around 250 more signups.

^ This is how I watch VR news for updates. :D

Anyway they're busy digging up my street now - will cancel Telkom line for end March and hope for the best.
They'll be busy in Kenridge until May.

Also in Kenridge. They still need to dig my street....

Unfortunately there is a bit of a disruption with these kind of things, but in the bigger scheme, it's actually a fairly short time. If you think about it, the entire neighbourhood takes about 3 months to trench, but each individual house probably only gets disrupted for about a day (maybe a second day later to replace paving or the like). In 6 months time, all the disruptions will be a faint memory and you'll be enjoying internet-speed-bliss.... ;)

Can't wait for them to come dig up my driveway :p

They did a good job on mine... went around my illegal postbox which was kind. It took about a week. I still have to remove a few buckets of rocks from my lawn but that's par for builders

The exchange is going to be completed a bit late, so hoping for April.

Just a quick check-in:
Vumatel was supposed to do a flyer drop in the Protea Valley/Door de Kraal areas. Has anyone here living in this area received such a flyer?

Hi guys.

I'm going to send this to everybody on the Door de Kraal Neighbourhood watch as well. I'm in Artillery Road.
PS for the guys in Door de Kraal please come and join the neighbourhood watch.

Over the last year we've managed to dramatically reduce the number of vagrants sleeping in the parks etc around Door de Kraal and we've got a WhatsApp group etc. Send an email to ddknhw [at] gmail [dot] com and become part of the community. You'll be asked to do one or two 30minute patrols per month.

So it seems like Door de Kraal and Protea Vallei are considered together for the purpose of this rollout.
I'm trying to send an email to the Proteah Valley Neighbourhood watch as well to distribute the Vumatel link. Hopefully we'll see the required number of signatures drop significantly today as well.

Nope, didn't see any flyer (although my wife may have seen it and maybe didn't pay attention.).

I think we rather need a specific tailored flyer stating:
"Hallo Door de Kraal / Protea Valley. We need 300 of you to indicate interest for us to roll out Fibre in your area. Currently about 160 of you have already done so. Do so by......"

People get too much marketing stuff. But if it mentions them specifically then there may be a larger response.
So I assume we've tried flyers, now we must use direct contacting of people (Which I'll help with via the neighbourhood watches" and lastly we probably need to get Vumatel to stand at the Jip de Jager / Van Riebeeckshof robot one afternoon and hand out flyers.
This happened by the circle at Kenridge centre last October for Kenridge residents, seems like it worked?

Anyway, it's supposed to be a no brainer, enough people with enough $$$ for neighbourhoods like these to be profitable to Vumatel. I'd think it would rather be a race between providers to capture these quality neighbourhoods, rather than requiring the residents themselves to prompt them into action.

Had a couple of Vumatel surveyors on Ground Rose and Blou Suikerbos taking pictures of each house and measuring road length in meters.

I prompted everybody I know in Protea Valley and they all registered.

The flyer that was meant to be sent out was tailored for DDK/PV, you can have a look at a copy on the PV facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ProteavalleiRA/permalink/1634556543520945/

To be honest it should be a no brainer. The area has enough houses with $$$ that people will want to go to FTTH. In addition, the maximum current fixed line speeds are claimed at 10Mbps in Door de Kraal, but my line never syncs at more than 3Mbps.

So any company shouldn't really need to be sure of clientele before just rolling out, if its there people will sign up.
