FTTH Rondebosch

not quite - telkom fibre runs over IPC, EXACTLY the same as your adsl. That is why you can use your adsl account on a telkom FTTH line.

operators who have provisioned their own networks have no such limitations.

I suspect this is also why telkom FTTH upload speeds are 1/10th of download, whereas other providers your upload is generally 1/2 of your download speed

You have no idea of what you are speaking about.

Cybersmart Lightspeed being installed at a few flats in the area.
Also a starting special of R599 p/m.

I'm getting this in Mowbray, if you pre-order you get at the R599 price (200gig + 1Tera fter hours) otherwise its R899 and you can get 20gig +1T for R599.

Hopefully happening in the next few months, Rosebank is first.

Latest update I have on FTTH in Rondebosch is that Telkom are partnering with Vumatel.ETA is 3 to 6 months. This from a source within Telkom.

I can forward you the contact details of the person I've been dealing with if you want.

They just put up the last mile infrastructure in my street today. Guys said as soon as they're done I can call Telkom to run a line to my house.

They're using the telephone poles to run the fibre to the house.

What does the last mile infrastructure look like?
Sounds like you are getting it a lot sooner than me.

Latest update from RCID is that contractors will be in the area till end of September and will be running Fibre to the Telkom poles.

There has certainly been a lot of activity in the area and noticed various Telkom vehicles which are used for Fibre splicing.Hopefully not much longer to go.

A small part of Rondebosch has gone live according to the Telkom coverage map.

Latest report from TelkomZA is that there will hopefully be a cutover end of October for a large portion of Rondebosch.

I'm in Rondebosch and fibre was laid in our road months ago. I'm in a block of flats and there are fibre cables running to each floor. But that's as far as it's gone. Been like that for ages now. Hopefully this end of October story is a thing!

Contractors in area will be finished mid-November and will then handover to Openserve for QC.That could take a further 2 months.Feedback I got from contractor is that the FTTH roll-out is for only a very small portion of Rondebosch so looks likely that large section will still be stuck on ADSL for foreseeable future.

Had someone from Webafrica canvassing for Fibre in my area today. He seems to think it will be available in 2 to 3 months.Getting so many conflicting stories at the moment , not sure what to believe any more.

I live on Sandown Road.

There is A LOT of activity in the surrounding area. Contractors have been working in various areas, with large reels lying around.

At the intersection of campground and park
Outside bishops high school (next to the subway) - lots of material and cables stored here under the trees.
Corner of Sandown and Milner.

Contractors have been in the area pretty much for the last 12 months, but it seems like in the last 4-6 weeks they are actually working with a purpose.

In the week Webafrica were giving out fibre pamphlets in the area during morning traffic.

Hopefully we go live soon!
