FTTH Rondebosch

Latest feedback from Openserve is that planning has been done but no one knows when building will start or finish.Doesn't sound very encouraging.Area has been in planning phase for a year now with little to show for it and looks like we could be waiting another year at least.Shouldnt be surprised really considering who we dealing with.As usual comms from Openserve are top notch.Seems it's a bad habit they haven't shaken from the Telkom legacy.

I wonder if this planning phase tactic is a means to discourage competitors entering those areas?

I'm in Belvedere Rd and was contacted by MWEB to say fibre is coming "soon". Signed up with a few ISPs already - Web Africa gave a 6 month ETA, perhaps sooner.

Just got an email from WebAfrica saying fibre is available where I live (Stuart Road). Unfortunately it's Telkom fibre, so it's not much cheaper than my current ADSL. Does anyone know if any of the "open" providers are going to be bringing fibre to the area, or will we be stuck with Telkom?

Congrats on getting FTTH.If it's Telkom FTTH try ISPAfrika for the Fibre line rental and you can use Webafrica/Afrihost/Vox/Crystalweb for data.
I don't know if we are going to see any Open providers for a while. They have probably been discouraged by the fact that Telkom has Rondebosch as planned on their coverage map.

Stoked just checked the Telekom coverage map and there it is. Fibre is available. Will check out the ISPAfrika option above. Otherwise it's the Telkom packages at this stage. I don't see other providers in the area.

It seems MWEB are running a good deal through Telkom infrastructure. Free installation and router and cheaper than the Telkom deal.

Great news. Telkom are coming today to install my fibre line. Can't believe it. It's been less than two weeks since it was ordered.

Whereabout in Rondebosch are you guys? The coverage map hasn't been updated in a while...

I'm just off Main Road near Van Schaiks book store. When I checked the coverage map there was a strip of active fibre heading up towards the M3.

I checked every week for a while. Saw 2 weeks ago that our street had become active.

Now if they could please put the sidewalks & roads back together again :).

Latest update I have from Openserve is that there is a small section already live, another section to go live shortly and the remainder to go live in March 2017.
This is from someone quite high up the food chain so can accept that it's reliable. Its been a long road and grateful that it's almost done.Well done Openserve!

Thanks for the update. Sounds promising. Please keep sharing any titbits of updates, as information (particularly time-frames) is hard to come by. I'm in Belvedere Rd, the stretch between Keurboom and Ave De Mist, which is right on the edge of the coverage map. There's lots of digging in the streets surrounding us, but nothing in our road yet, so we're a bit anxious.

I believe the telltale sign is black boxes and Fibre from the telephones poles so keep a look out for that.If you see workers on the telephone poles you know it's close.

At least you're just inside the coverage area. I'm just outside...

I live on Ronderbosch main road, close to Checkers in a block of flats.
What would i need to do or who do i need to contact to request FTTH? i think when i saw cybersmart's offering they need a 1m3 area in your building...
The main road has just had fibre laid, though no manhole covers put in yet.
Not keen on signing a 2 yr contract as renting, but keen to get the trustees of my flat onboard and organized, if March 2017 is go live.
Any knowledge of the resellers on Openserve that do month to month agreements?
