Game/console collectors thread

Still fire up the old PS3, from time to time. Mine is a launch day unit from the US.

Works great via RGB on older CRT Monitors.

I would love to get my hands on a launch model, just a pity they're so prone to failure.

Have you done any work on it, e.g. re-pasting the thermal paste, etc?

No work on it at all. Has worked fine since day one.

The Cash Crusaders near me all have quite a few PS3 games and more often than not they're really well priced. The people selling games there must be getting paid peanuts for them.
Collect asap
My Cash Crusaders used to have tons
Nothing this year, they've all been removed
Probably found its way to other branches
Kicking myself now

Hmmm

Oops...

My photo above are all the ones from Cash Crusaders, its the only ones they had that I really wanted. I will pop in today again and see if they have anything new.

There are 3 branches within 10 minutes drive from me:
Parklands (at the Food Lovers): best selection, they must have over 200 PS3 games there.
Table Bay Mall: small collection, but they have a few.
Flamingo Vlei (at the Spar centre): Also small selection, I picked up the sleeved MGS4 there.

They used to have PS2 games also but last time I went by only the Parklands branch had, and it was one shitty pool game.

Also if anyone in Cape Town is interested in picking up tons of retro stuff you should visit Galactic Traders in Blaauwberg Road, Table View: https://www.galactictraders.co.za/

The have a ton of games, they're overpriced but you're paying for the convenience and the fact that everything is tested beforehand. You can also trade in games for other games there, especially useful if you find yourself with duplicates and want to trade for something else.

(also while you're there, there is an Indian couple that sell samoosas next door - don't miss out).

Now you tell me.....

Could have bought a shtload for R1K.

Only joking having sealed for the purpose of keeping sealed was worth it.

I would check Cash Crusaders first...

Galactic Traders have a great selection but you will pay higher prices.

The problem with Cash Crusaders is that I bought duds before. Looks OK but PS3 goes "Nope" when you wanna play them.

If Galactic traders do check them then its worth the extra.

I must have been lucky then, tested all my games when I got home and they all worked and the discs were also all mostly in mint condition - after cleaning any fingerprints off.

Definitely pop by Galactic Traders though, just don't blame me when you walk out there with a hole in your bank balance  They have some cool stuff in there.

If you're really serious about your collections you should also check out CLZ Games app (https://www.collectorz.com/game). You can try it out for 7 days but does have a subscription cost after that.

Allows you to just scan in games using their barcodes and builds a database which also gives you access to their value. The subscription is worth it to the right kind of collector, I'm still on the fence but the app is good.

Neat app, not so much into collecting physical games to value a sub, more into emulation so I'm "subbed" to https://www.launchbox-app.com/ instead :D

This thread is depressing, going through the pics I can almost smell the distinctive smell of electronics kept in a box in the back of the garage for years smell.

I bought an AGS-101 Gameboy Advance SP in near-mint condition for R100. But it doesn't charge due to what I suspect is a burnt fuse

Collected my haul this morning, in total there were 78 games - most of them in are in good condition, a few are missing manuals and 3 don't have proper covers but still think I got a good deal.

Some of them are quite valuable while others not so much.

This is my PS2 - PS4 collection now:
