I have an XBOX. Based on the trouble I'm having to go through to get it repaired, I'd recommend anything else.

Yeah, but so what? When I can rent them it will become something worth having.
I did my research, which is why the PS3 remains a future purchase. For the additional money it still offers nothing extra of immediate use.
Well games are still an issue. The Xbox remains a better purchase for someone looking at a game console, although specifically not the Elite which is a huge premium for an extra 60Gb of disk space.
But you'd do it if it you bought a PS3.
I can't lie to someone and tell them that it makes sense to spend R5000+ on a console when they can get something just as good for R3600.
Which is still, frankly, really stupid. It's a piece of hardware, a tool. I could care less as long as it does its job.
People who still cling to the "Xbox is best argument" are either wearing blinkers, are completely naive and ignorant, or MS-obsessed fanboys.
This is what the 360 has going for it: it's price. That's it.
If you're in the market for a console, surely you need to look at: console reliability (PS3 pwns), exclusive games library (PS3 pwns), free online multiplayer (PS3 pwns), content store supported in SA (PS3 pwns), and purely as an added bonus, you get one of the best blu-ray players on the market, and a robust multimedia device.
And personally i'd gladly shell out another R1500 for the above.
Sold my 360 about 2 weeks ago since it's been nothing more than a doorstop since the PS3's launch, dusted off for (highly overrated) Fable 2, and then put firmly back to what it does best (read: being a doorstop).

I'm sooooo happyyyyyy!!!!!
I managed to get a Jasper, so hopefully this won't be an issue for me. Not holding my breath mind you
, but for the price I got it for it was a good deal.
The only games that really peaked my interest on the PS3 was LBP, GoW and inFamous that just came out. Never was a MGS fan.
In the end I enjoy Gears and Halo more.
Not interested. Don't have proper (read hardline) internet, so I don't/can't play online. And for those occasional updates that pop up a Silver account is all I need.
This to me is probably the biggest thing going for the PS3 in SA. But if one day M$ decides to officially support Live in SA and all that goes with it.... I believe the Xbox would pwn.
But again I'm not interested... see above.
Hmmmmmmmm, you know I always thought that I'd get a standalone Blu-Ray player when I get a proper LCD TV and such, but I'm not so sure anymore.
After spending three weeks with my uncle's entertainment systems (Blu-ray, HD-DVD, monster LCDs, etc.) I think I'll give the whole HD thing a skip......... for the foreseeable future anyway.
It all looks very pretty and the sound is awesome, but I just don't see myself spending that kind of money for pretty. Also the loading times for Blu-Ray irritate the crap out of me. Strangely HD-DVD doesn't have any loading times. It's sad really, the menu interface was superior the load times are like a normal DVD and yet it still lost. IMHO, it was the better format.
Personally, I believe the future of HDTV lies in AppleTV. Man, what a great invention!!! It will probably be available to us when we get 10Mbps lines and caps higher than 3GB.......... sometime in the year 2150 then.
In conclusion: I did my research and made the choice to buy an Xbox. I can accept that others (who also did their research) choose to buy the PS3. Can't we all just get along??????

@Toxin: totally agree with your post, i just still think the only thing the 360's got going for it is its price. If it cost the same, or had say a R500 difference, these discussions would't exist.
But yes, if you don't play online, don't use LIVE or PSN, don't want to get into the whole HD scene, and hope the Jasper will have bigger reliability, then the 360 seems to be the obvious choice, but then again, so does the PS2, or *shudders* the Wii.
