Gaming on Afrihost

I use Webafrica, average ping for intoxicated servers is 10ms and international play is usually 185ms (I play league of legends and Eve Online).

I use to be on AH and the difference is night and day.

Oh, my pings: 160-175 EUW LoL (Most of the time 168ish, 164 in the mornings), 190 Smite.
10mbit line as well, but used to have the same pings (maybe 2ms more) on 4mbps, only now due to the upload one can run skype/youtube videos as well, due to us having multiple people playing at the same time.

What's the point of posting pings here when people live in different towns.
At the very least say where you're from.

In PE the pings are automatically 40s and upwards due to the distance from the server.
Afrihost is always fine on that front really.
I use Vox and AH but lately Vox local pings have been 160ms which is a bit worrying but more exchange related imo.

Yes, Shaun108 is from Planet Earth which is as helpful as me being from St Petersburg, considering I've never even been to St Petersburg before.

I also call myself James Fotherington III for anonymity reasons.

I use Afrihost capped and pings are good to EU Diablo 3 at 250-290ms. The US server is around 370-390ms. This is from DBN.

You were saying?

Afrihost used to be 175 ping to uk now they range between 220 and 280 because they sold out to mtn, now everything runs through MTN (POS) server. They no longer have redundancy. They SOLD out and now they lie about everything. Please everyone cancel your accounts and move elsewhere.

I get 155-175ms to uk on an afrihost business 2mbps account from cape town.

One issue i have had is slight jumpy ping to mweb based servers. When the ingame ping is stable its at 15-16ms to intoxicated servers, but when its jumpy it is 20-30ms. Anyone else experience this on CS GO? Not sure if its just the game, because iv done ping tests on cmd and when i get 12-13ms to intoxicated.co.za it still jumps around in the game.

Someone did raise this issue on our Capped Thread, he is going to be running a few tests for us tonight so that I we can locate the issue causing this, we should have a better idea once we've gone through the results.

Cool. Could you please PM me or post in this thread once you have any updates on the problem.

Afrihost has bad packet loss... it seems to be the mtn networks fault and it isn't getting better. Sometimes it caused delays, stutter and lag in games.

My experience is that it also makes sc2 unplayable with random dc's and on fps a lot of shots miss because of it. My ticket on the issue has been open for 6 months now with no fix or reply.

Here is my gaming tip: don't use them...

I have rarely had packet loss while gaming - had a lot of disconnects late last year, but it wasn't to do with Afrihost as it turned out.

I do a lot of online racing, and you'd instantly notice if there is either a lot of packet loss, or a lot of jitter with racing sims, as it's an hour to 90 minutes of being full-on connected.

I also don't get packet loss. I play mostly CS GO and quake live and the only times i have ever seen any packet loss is when someone else was using the internet while i was playing.

Do you play with your netgraph open? does it actually state 0% packet loss? Generally speaking you will not get packetloss from other people using the net. You will get ping spikes and that is about it. The packetloss originates on route on an mtn ip it has been there for over a year.

It has not been resolved.

As stated above, with racing games you'll immediately notice packet loss when other cars start disappearing etc.

I do play with netgraph on and the packet loss is always at 0%. If someone else is online then my packet loss would briefly jump to 1-5% if its a really bad spike or on quake live i'd see red lines on the lagometer.

I did some tests earlier and i see i get intermittent time outs to the ipc-send addresses, is this what you are talking about?
