Are they rip off artists?

I don't buy from Kismet because of a bad experience. They charged me R30/kg when prices were below R25/kg. Worse were their excuses when I complained. I was told that: "We don't sell by the kg", "There's no such thing as a maximum retail price", "The price that you're quoting is what we pay for gas, not what we sell for", "Only 9kg bottles have set prices", "We do poor people favours" and finally "If you call the store again I'll lay a charge with police". I hate scummy businesses and now buy my LPG elsewhere.

Well they charge more than the government maximum regulated price for 9Kg refills. People buy from them because of the shortage (Afrox two months ago started refusing to fill non- Afrox cylinders). I won't buy from them out of principle, even if I have to braai every night.

There are two outlets in Midrand that I know of, The Gas Boys and some spaza shop dude, both are Oryx Gas suppliers, yes they are scummy businesses.

Got this one as well. I LOVE IT. I just ran out of gas like an hour ago. I'm heading. Over to Gas Boys tomorrow,I normmaly get my refill there.

I buy from gasgiant. Order online, usually delivers the next day to Midrand.

Haven't an issue with getting gas from them.

Where are you guys based? Boyfriend and met popped into local BP garage and got a refill bottle no probs.

We are in Parkhurst and usually get from Henry's Gas but there are a few garages and hardware type stores that we source 9kg's from if we need.

Thanks We are good for now, it is only the one 48kg that we will need to replace when it runs out but have a spare 48kg in our gas setup so it is not urgent. Luckily we kept the Morso 4542 wood fire place when we bought so use that for the bulk of our heating requirements.

SA imports a lot of LPG, our refineries can't keep up with demand. It's a big reason that the government wants to move from setting LPG maximum prices based on petrol prices to using the Saudi contract price as a basis.

Also, general service notice: LPG has a maximum retail price which changes eaxh month with petrol prices. Please make sure that you don't pay more than that, as some dealers illegally rip people off.

I have no problems getting gas from Gas For Africa on Ontdekkers Rd across from Horizon View Shopping Centre.
Only refills available and it was hectic there on Friday and Saterday

Our area is also in short supply (Northcliff/Fairlands) - availability of stock is based on timing it right. My normal supplier advises that he orders 60-70 9kg's daily, but only received 20-30.
Fortunately he takes orders for free delivery, and guarantees within 48 hours you will have your gas irrespective of supply issues.

Also in Fairland, which supplier is this?

RRIO Gas - In Blackheath Centre. Tried to find a 9kg bottle the other day - all out of stock (incl. RRIO). RRIO was the only one who offered the delivery, everyone else = try tomorrow. Got it the next morning.
