Gas unavailability ?

Just weigh it yourself to see it it is the correct quantity.

Edit: question for someone that might know. Can a less reputable distributor fill a canister with another cheaper gas(maybe oxygen)or just air to make weight?

No idea.. but remember the canister has weight, so a 9kg canister is approx 2kg making the combo 11kg. <-- this is actually printed or marked on the bottle btw.

A short anecdote wish to share with you.

So one of my very good tenants (well they have been there a while and I have no problems with them neither them with me)phones me yesterday...when are you going to refill the gas bottle, I think it's almost empty as the pressure on the stove looks down and I hear the people complain about gas availability. I am cooking on my two plate now but it is costing me prepaid money, you must hurry

Needless to say I burst out laughing at the strangeness and entitlement of the situation with them making a confused picachu face I could literally hear.

So I told them that the half full 48kg cylinder I left there was out of the goodness of my heart and partly due to the fact that I have currently no use for it. Sometimes people amaze me.....

:unsure::sneaky::rolleyes:

No, they're closer to 10kg empty.

Are you sure about that? It says gross on some canisters as about 11kg ish with the gas. An empty canister cant be 10kg. [if we talking about the 9kg gas cyclinders]

Yes I am.

Those are tare numbers.

You can't tell me you can make a safe cylinder including handles and valves out of 1.1kg of metal.

@Sinbad: reason I mention is i seen them doing the refilling and they use a scale and thats where came across numbers. You sure that 10.2 is not gross weight? Not saying wrong just curious also about it now. Guess will wait till mine is empty and weigh it.

The tare / empty weight is printed on the cylinder - it's used to determine how much gas to pump into the cylinder when refilling. If a 9kg cylinder's tare weight is 10.1 kg then the cylinder should be filled to 19.1 kg for 9kg.

Gas cylinders are built with a safety margin. In other words that 9kg might only be around 80% - 90% of what the cylinder can actually hold and that's why they need to be weighed to determine how much to fill them.

One of our 48kg's ran empty this morning so I have placed an order with Henry's Gas for delivery of two 9kg and one 48kg refill for next week Monday for what looks to be great pricing.

I just placed an order with Gas Giant. R612 including a cylinder and the coupon code worked like a charm. R230 to fill the bottle.

Last week I walked into a local hardware store near me. R1150 for a 9kg bottle with gas. I thought that was a little pricey.

To refill an owned bottle at my local Mica they charge R24.somethingsomething per kg which I was not expecting.
