I got a rather old but very trusty old gate motor. So last week a builder was at my house, wife tried to open gate, it went half way and the garden engineer left the hosepipe in the gate wheel's way, gate stop and she need to go, the builder operate the manual opening lever and he broke it. The motor still work but no manual opening is possible.
My question is will the insurance pay for a new motor , I think they only pay for stolen or drowning type stuff.

Check your policy
If you have accidental damage cover, claim under that. You should have the cover if the policy was sold to you properly unless you elected not to take the cover.
Alternatively you can hold the builder liable if he has insurance.
