Great show me in the bible where you should defend your beliefs with blood

If you were Jewish you would believe that Israel was given to the Jews by G-d. Jews AFAIK have defended their belief in the recent weeks. Quite simple isnt it.

Hmm strange how all the anti-gay marriage people posting here are the same anti-gov, anti-sa and anti-free religion (read the satanism post).

Also highly strange that they are all Christian.. doesn't seem like a very tolerant religion....

Okay, first of all, I'll thank you to not place me in the same category as the other anti-gov, anti-sa anti-free religion people (I stayed far away from the OTHER thread for a reason). I simply posted some questions, and we have debated them. Quite an amicable discussion, I think. I have purposefully refrained from involving my beliefs (and it is difficult to continue to do so).

Maybe, but he would not put any value on his own life and would offer it up without a second thought.

1) divorce-> marriage is no longer a life long commitment-> broken homes
2) the make love not war revolution -> the idea that sex is reserved for marriage has led to STD's, lots of hearts broken and abortions
3) the idea that a child should be born in marriage is no longer upheld, therefore we have lots of single parents, fatherless children, etc. the consequences of which are very negative
4) the porn industry has led to men adopting a more selfish approach to fulfilling their sexual desires, i.e. anywhere, anytime, anybody, so we have more abused wifes, sex crimes and broken relationships [if it is easy to be unfaithful before marriage, it is generally easier to be unfaithful during marriage]

So then what makes the government (read a small minority) think that a way out change such as redefining what marriage is will have a positive effect on society??
Divorce - huge step forward. Children no longer growing up in homes where parents hate each other and fight constantly. Better one parent than living in a war zone with two.

4)Yeah right. What fantasy past are you remembering? The one where women were men's servants? The one in which men could and did, with legal protection, beat and rape their wives? Only in the rose tinted delusion of what the past was were men more faithful then than now.

Can we please have more war. I miss war, and it was so much better than love.

3)Only in the deranged imaginations of the lunatic fringe were children only born to married parents in the past. Good riddance to the days when children were harassed because they were born to an unmarried mother.

I'm not so good with my scriptures, but isn't he then rewarded with 77 virgins in heaven?

Or am I confused again?

3. Civil unions take effect (Why marry? Why can't co-habitors (living together) have same benefits?)
How much does marriage cost the state?

Who suggests marriage should be abolished?

Why would marriage require promotion? And if it is pushed will people then not be likely to marry in haste which ultimately results in divorce?

Civil union? You mean a common law marriage? Marriage is a civil union.

I think you're confused again, I know what's right and what wrong, you can ridicule me all you want for my viewpoint/belief, at least I have the guts to stand up for what I believe in and to call evil evil when I see it.

Only 36% of children born to cohabiting parents are still looked after by both parents - even if they eventually marry - by the time the children are
16, compared with 70% of children born to married couples.

Marriage doesn't cost the state. Divorce does, and the shockwaves resulting from it.

Abolish marriage - see posts above about Canada.

Marriage requires promotion? I didn't say anything about that - but it may well need it soon. In the US states are already passing laws to protect the constitution of marriage.
No. Just because samesex marriages are legal doesn't mean we'll be pushed into them - likewise with marriages. It's the parents that often push their children into marrying - not the laws. Besides, that is certainly not a foregone conclusion.

Civil Union - yes, to a degree, common law marriage. Basically a live-in situation, with no formal agreement (as is with marriage)

as normal was defined at that time.
Do you wear Victorian clothes? Why not? It was normal to wear those clothes.

Do you keep slaves? It was once normal to keep slaves.

research in Sweden has proven to be true for same sex marriages. Same sex marriages last on average 1.5 years, and during the marriage your average spouse has around 8 other partners per year...).
Reference?

The situation we had is that homosexuals were hounded, harassed and shunned. It would be hard to form and maintain relationships in those circumstances.

Until very recently children born outside of marriage or also often those living with a single divorced parent were shunned and harassed, treated as though they were damaged, doomed. For some reason those children apparently found things harder. Even today you'll read articles warning about how children growing up with only one parent are destined to suffer permanent debilitating harm. Which comes first the chicken or the harm?

Can someone else explain why we must change the law for a minority?

Because the rights of minorities get protected.

Okay, apart from the Greco-Roman era. But we all know that once they embraced this free-for-all sex, etc. that their civilisation quickly crumpled. Scary, that.

"Quickly" crumpled!? Where did you get that from? Rome lasted 1200 or 2200 years (depending on your definition), and ancient Greece 1000. Which civilisations have come anywhere close to that?

I've got no hope for the future of SA. The difference between right and wrong have become so blurred by our politicians that it's like giving a sick child more diseases and expect them to become better. Sad really.

Why is there a "right" or "wrong" attached to this? In what way does gay marriage harm anyone else?

If divorce is an issue, then religious marriages should be banned, because religious people divorce more frequently than non-religious people.

Pushing people into marriage results in divorce. So how much does pushing marriage cost the state?

I know religious fanatics think it is better to live your life in a hate-filled broken relationship. I know they suffer the delusion that any relationship can be fixed. I'll be happy to throw plates, big glass ashtrays and bricks at their heads everyday to test how firmly they hold this belief.

Abolish marriage - see posts above about Canada.
I mean something other than that ranting diatribe.

with no formal agreement (as is with marriage)
Marriage was not typically recognised unless there was a formal contract. The default contract, formed on signing the register, was community of property. If your marriage was not formally registered it was not recognised by the state.

1. They are based on nature - and nature takes its course with man-woman unions.
While we're basing things on nature let's just drop the whole marriage thing. Just quick sex in the middle of the road from now on. Oh and just kill anyone who gets in your way.

For humans nature is to partner for approximately two years - produce a child, hang around long enough for that child to get past the initial hurdles, then move into the next woman. Nature did not produce lifelong partnerships in humans.
