I don't think he's suggesting that it's going to take a further 3000MW to bring back load shedding. He's simply stating that an increase in demand of around 3000MW is inevitable in the next week and given the amount of capacity currently down has to result in load shedding.

This is as South African as maintenance can get. Instead of preventative its reactive.

The new CEO has already addressed the conveyor belt issue apparently. It uses the same system at Kusile.

He has already demanded that they start the process of building a redundant system immediately.

Of course they don't, they need time to troubleshoot. Don't be like those people in WA groups that want to know why the power is off and when in will be fixed 5 minutes after it went off, the technicians haven't even gotten into their vehicles yet.

I repeat: Troubleshooting takes time.

Meanwhile, after another disastrous failure of the coal conveyor belt feeding the Medupi power station, Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer told Cape Talk on Monday that coal handling at the power station will be redesigned.

Oberholzer said that one of Medupi's units should have been out of commission from this week for more than two months to implement design changes, but plans were put on hold due to the shortage of electricity in the system.

It amazes me that our entire country, 57mil people (plus the rest here)... depend on a conveyor belt... talk about standing on one leg...

Not amazing when you realise its been designed by a tenderpreneur company that has no cooking clue what it is doing most probably (probably a Zuma family company too)
 
Various parts of eThekwini Metro without power, but there is "no load shedding" right now.
Something is not right here.
