I made a mistake I think that was justice's own "top 20" but imo people were raving about it, but no offence, it just was nothing special imo.

But different strokes for different folks I guess :)
 
True that - I belong to lot of group of flickr and sometimes you see some pretty standard working passing by and people rant and rave about it.

To illustrate the different strokes for different folks scenario even more, on the most interesting pictures of the Kodak Z1015 I have one picture from my regular flickr profile at position #17 out of 18.

My fetish flickr profile has much better rankings :
Kodak Z1015 - #1
Kodak Z812 - #2
Nokia 6233 - #2
Canon S1 - #2
Canon A460 - #11

Uh I don't understand. Do you belong to a couple of fetish groups that only take into conc. shots of a certain subject / object or only of a certain cam?
 
Flickr has a camera database that shows all the cameras and how popular they are on flickr. The camera make and model is extracted from the EXIF embedded in the jpegs. The popularity is calculated by the number of views an image gets and other stats like the amount of people that favorite it and comment on it.

The 'most interesting' stats I am talking about is per camera for the entire flickr.

hmmm not really, I work regularly on about 5 different monitors. The samsung at work display definately did NOT show the pictures the same, especially the reds. I turned off all the magicBright and uber contrasty stuff, calibrated it with a borrowed calibrator and its leaps and bounds better.

Where do you see that? The only popularity stats I see are per camera for the last year, based on the number of users and uploads per day. For example Canon 40D shows:

  • 65,765 items uploaded yesterday
  • 3,602 users yesterday
  • Ranked 3 of 175 Canon Cameras

While the Canon page shows:

1. Most Photos or Video Taken In The Last Month
2. Top 5 Canon Cameras in the Community
3. A list of all Canon cameras with the following information:

  • # of items: This is the number of photos uploaded per model.
  • Avg. daily users: This is the average number of Flickr members who uploaded 1 or more photos yesterday.
  • Activity Factor: The "activity factor" is a number derived from photos, members and model's rank to indicate cameras that are used "a lot."
  • Type: Point&Shoot/DSLR/Cameraphone/Camcorder
  • Rank: A model's rank (within its brand) is based on how many people used it yesterday.

Please link this too. The All Brands only shows a list of all models.

Right, you're talking about image ranking/popularity per camera. But your post, the one I quoted said "Flickr has a camera database that shows all the cameras and how popular they are on flickr" which sounds like your talking camera popularity.

+1 I'd also really like to get that lens. Maybe when I become a bit better at taking photo's and after a while of saving I could maybe get one for myself :)
 
What gear to pack . . .

In planning a trip to the UK I'm trying to cut down on what I'm going to be carting around while on holiday with the family. ATM I'm looking at:

Definitely maybe:
1 400D body
1 28-300 Sigma
1 50mm f/1.8
1 Sigma Flash
NatGeo Tripod
Nikon P6000

Maybe:
18-55 Kit lens and/or 16-35 f/2.8
70-200 f/4
TC
Battery grip
2nd 400D

Any suggestions? Everything, including my Macbook, but excluding the tripod, has to fit in my kata bag

It's going to be nice shooting something different for a change. :)

My suggestion would be your Nikon compact and a decent smartphone that can accept memory cards from the camera. Does more or less the same, fits in your pocket and it not a plane-smash if it gets lost, stolen or smashed.

Thanks for the input. Everything is well insured and probably in need of an upgrade. :)
 
I'd leave the P&S, unless your wife or one of the kids would use it. I'd take the kit lens (for the wide angle) and leave the heavy stuff like the 70-200 and the 16-35. I'd also rather take the battery from the 2nd 400d, rather than the 2nd camera or the grip (don't forget to include the charger in the pack ;)).

What about a gorillapod rather than the tripod?

I'm leaning the same way as far as the kit lens - does DPP auto correct for the barrel distortion?

I think the gorillapod I would want costs more than the tripod I have - I might buy one there.
 
What is the bigger concern - How much you can take with you (i.e. flight) or how much you want to have with you while you're there?

Gorillapod is nice but it's not gonna cut it with a 70-200mm on. At least, not the SLR Zoom model.

If you're interested, I've been thinking of selling off my Sigma 530 Super. It's hardly used, possibly still under warranty, and has the newest firmware on. Reason is that it doesn't work in anything other than fully manual with the G9, so I might as well get a Canon flash.

I dont mind how much stuff I've got while I'm there - I'll be at home a lot and the car has a decent boot.

It's basically travel weight and getting the gear in that one bag.

How much for the flash? I dropped mine and managed to crack the case pretty severely.
