Unfortunately I don't have much experience with portraits using anything other than natural or available light. Always learning. Mostly by trial and error. Not too fond of continuous lighting for portraits - the subject invariably ends up with pinprick eyes.
I have read a lot about continuous light and eye reflections being a problem. However it is the best option I will have for now. Was thinking about bouncing the light off reflectors to negate the harshness on the eyes. Will of course be a learning curve and that is the fun part.
Still saving up and waiting for the return of Makro ebucks vouchers so that I can get a decent speed light to add to the arsenal.
Of course the LED light is mainly for my food and still photography. I really want to try some low key photography at a stage as well. And the variable LED lighting will be perfect for that.
