General Photography

Hi everyone,

Quick question - did Pix Mag bite the dust like so many other magazines? I came across some copies in my school's library and they were really quite nice to read through. Obviously reviews and contents are ancient now, but the tutorials and interviews were worth it.

Was thinking they would be ideal for the kids in my little photo club here at school to browse through and perhaps learn a thing or two.

Currently on sale for R44,995.00 at Orms. Of course it's been around for 2+ years so that's to be expected.

Also UK VAT is 20% as opposed to our 14%

I'm not talking about the sale price obviously...5DS is R53,995.00 normal price and the 5DS R is even more expensive at R56,995.00. I'm all for bashing PD for their markups but I don't see a problem with the D850 price, at all.
 
That's one potent camera, wonder when they will make a hybrid dslr with an EVF in the viewfinder that can be switched on and off, have the best of both worlds. The Fujifilm guys have managed to get it right with their Xpro1 and 2 hybrid viewfinder that can be an OVF or EVF.
 
Picked up a Canon EF-s 10-18mm as a stop gap while my 16-35 is being repaired and I have to admit it's not an awful lens, plastic mount and all.
 
Nice. I rarely snap anything these days that require something that wide.

Find myself using my 50mm F1.8 about 75% of the time and the other times and when I'm unsure of the circumstances/environment I would use the 18-135mm for some leverage. Really not bad for a kit lens.

My heart is still pulling strongly towards the 24-70mm F2.8 as I had it previously on my Nikon setup. So I know how versatile and potent that piece of glass is. But oh, the finances, she does not want to work together!

I'm supposed to shoot stadium shots of all the venues I go to and the 24-105 just wasn't cutting it. With the 16-35 in for repairs I was desperate.

The 24-70 is an awesome chunk of glass and the f/4 version is also pretty good. I opted for the 24-105 just for the versatility. It didn't hurt that it was a fraction of the price.

Can't remember the last time I used my 50mm f/1.4.
 
So I just got back from Johannesburg. Drove through after work.

Couldn't let this one pass.

My new window to the world at a bargain price of R10k. And for good measure got a 2x Extender thrown into the deal as well.

Virtually brand new as the guy almost never used it and wife now forced him to sell all the stuff gathering dust.

Like a boss, now start doing 50 press-ups once a day to get those arms ready!
 
Hehe. Luckily this is where my years of weightlifting will come in handy.

That or the monopod is coming out of retirement again.

@McT Sorry only saw now you asked from where as well. Private seller. Little of a friend of a friend of a friend type of thing. Wife spotted it on her Facebook feed after a friend shared her friend's post that her husband needs to clear out the cupboards.

The free 2x Extender was a real bonus. He didn't even know what it did and why he bought it :eek:

I saw it advertised and was SO tempted. Sadly I was more broke than tempted. :cry:
