The only thing that should be honored about the Confederacy is its defeat and the freeing of slaves. The Confederacy was a disgrace to American history.

The protests are a way of un-erasing history. Statues are not history, they are public symbols of values.

Of course, how else is the average rioter meant to watch the history channel if they don't have the latest 4K Sony Bavaria...

Statues are a part of human history. The values are whatever the public wish to place on them. If people didn't recognize them as part of history they would make them out of paper mache and burn them.

The protestors are anti-racism protestors. They are protesting against racism, so of course highlighting one of Churchill's flaws is relevant to the protest.

I am a big Churchill supporter, after all he was the earliest pro-EU voice and advocated for its creation, but do feel that his racism needs to be known and recognised.

When Colston was discussed earlier I highlighted that his statue was erected in the wrong time when slavery was already abolished, however, I also elaborated that institutions now which once built their empires on slavery engaged in embracing their history as with the Merchant Venturers,

and this is also applicable to the schools. Though I disagree with the statue due to it's time being issued, history is a valuable moral compass and we need to learn by it. Doctrine can lead to one 'supremacy' being superseded by another, and may I ask, is the United Kingdom a white supremacy?

Our country is 'un-erasing' history, it is called decolonisation and remember that white people, the invaders, invaded these lands.

Why the fixation with the past? How do you think this will improve people's lives now? How will tearing down a statue get someone a job? Teach them a new skill? What purpose does it actually serve? You can try and rewrite history a million times, it will not change tomorrow.

Why should it be moved if it affronts some? Why pander to people who is only interested in destruction?

Mandela ordered the murder of innocents, should we not be tearing down his statues?
 
Difference is TC has enough self respect and money to be able to tell the real truth and survive, if he does not back down and survives others will follow.

If we are lucky he becomes black trump.

Why is that a strawman? Why should the stuff of one slave bearing society be respected and protected, whilst the stuff of another be destroyed and looted?

I know, lets follow the paradigm of leftists like that historian. Take the City of Bath in the UK, demolish all the historical buildings and replace them with postmodern monstrosities named after transgender black Muslims. You know since we can't have anything in society that bears a hint of impurity.

Imagine not having any of that slave architecture like this:
