I think this goes both ways, one of recent events in SA that I always point out is Life Esidimeni tragedy.
144 people were murdered by lack of care and starvation, which in my mind is worst kind of torture(human rights violation).

How may protest did we see? How many officials were criminality charged?

For years crime is one of scourges that affects our society, mostly poor population and when you complain you get response to go where you came from.

And what kind of level-headed pragmatic solutions would you propose to fix a police force that abuses its power with flagrant impunity? That shoots at random people in cars with rubber bullets, and drives armored vehicles straight into crowds of protesters, and walks into a call and immediately starts beating up the black shop owner without stopping to ask questions, and applauds cops who shoved a 75 year old man onto the street? The situation hasn't improved one bit since the fight for BLM started 6 years ago; if anything it's gotten worse.

The US police are clearly, obviously militarized and overtly authoritarian. I'd also love to be able to take a pragmatic approach to fix what's wrong but I'm afraid the problems are systemic and deeply entrenched.

Remind me again how long have black people in the US been fighting for civil rights? Yet here they are in 2020 still being targeted by the police, still with no improvement in sight? White women in NY feel they can use the police to deter black people who bother them. I'll be honest, I might start getting a little incoherent eventually, just a little bit anarchistic.

That's a really special kind of deranged racism. These people are the most dangerous people walking around in our country right now, bar none. Their sense of entitlement is boundless and they are as sensitive as a flower. Be wary of them.
