Getting better sleep

So that's something the blood results returned. From the doctor:

Got a prescription for a few things to address the allergy so will probably drop the CBD for a bit and take the medication and see.

The anxiety & stress it might well be, but it's tricky that it only klaps me in the early morning. I'm generally quite calm in the evenings and fall asleep fine but ja - there might be something beneath the surface I'm not noticing. Maybe a bit of meditation before bed would help to at least bring that to light.

I'm quite prone to sinus issues but I've been for allergy testing and tried all sorts of antihistamines that just made me more tired.
This is self diagnosis but I believe I'm just prone to inflammation in my sinus cavities.
The only thing that works for me is the saline rinse stuff(little bottle and packet) a few times a week at night and then flonase/flomist type sprays every morning. If I get lazy and the inflammation flares up I wake up tired even after 9 hours of sleep and often get dark rings under my eyes.

For anxiety and stress your sleep will likely be more restless. Trouble getting to sleep, waking up frequently etc.

But it looks like you have a few things to try so hopefully you find the problem.

This is insomnia and can be serious. Go to a psychiatrist and ask to be put on medication. Try 7.5mg (half a tablet) of Miradep about 30 mins before sleep time. It is officially an anti-depro but I have been on this for years for insomnia:

Excuse me I'd rather walk around like a Zombie from lack of sleep..
Well I don't think it affect everyone but garlic is a problem for some. It just gives you some funny feeling and you can't sleep, no pain. And it does not have to be a lot like eating garlic bread, just a few flakes from garlic salt or something

Interesting. How did this work out for you? What is the process?
I started of using the Sleep present and sleeping with my earphones the entire but with trial and error I now use the Deep Sleep present on a 10-to-15-minute timer just before I go to bed. I fight that doing this way I'm getting a better quality sleep and even helps with the quality of my dreams.

Well, if you have sinus issues as described, it could be that you abit overwiegiht. Reduce weight to your BMI level and then you will cut down on "thick fat" blocking your sinuses. And go and check an ENT for confirmation

Weight has never been an issue for me Ive been skinny most of my life maybe a few extra kilos now that I'm older and busier but I'll drop some again during the holidays as I'm usually active for most of it.

Already tried. The advantage of a sleep study is they can determine what's causing the waking (cortisol, apnea etc.).

(Edit: I've tried the mouth taping.)

@saor make your bedroom as dark as possible as that increases melatonin production.

Alternatively try an eye mask - you may laugh but they do help. Get the ones from AA not those hideous slimey ones from Dischem.

Also 100% cotton PJs, 100% cotton sheets and a proper duvet - none of this synthetic crap.

EDIT: Hahahahaha and this is just a personal peculiarity - I can only sleep with plain, white or pastel coloured bedding. No bright or dark colours, no patterned fabric.

Got curtains with light block layer so it is reasonably dark. The cotton yup - it's currently polyester blend sheet / mattress cover.

Hmmm, can't sleep on that.....but good that the room's dark.

How did you find the taping works, is it uncomfortable?
I find for some reason when I lie down to sleep my nose often gets blocked and hence end up breathing through my mouth, I’d be interested to try it.

Ah so...bruxism. For which I wear a bite plate at night. Made it a bit awkward to sleep with the plate + mouth taped closed. The few nights I left the plate out I didn't notice much difference, but in the end I was worried about grinding my teeth too much so put the plate in and untapped. Worth a shot if you haven't tried. I found micropore tape to work quite well.

(Ja I'm aware the grinding probably points to something related to stress / tension / anxiety that might be related to the tiredness).

The morning tiredness / irritability thing also happens to me occasionally after hours of what’s normally decent restful sleep. Usually when stress/anxiety levels are higher than I realise.

My diet’s also healthy (mostly). I take a daily multivit - no other meds, but am prone to mild iron deficiency anaemia since teenage years, so I can quickly recognise what’s up when my sleep’s not working right. My go to is a 15g iron tab daily for a week - sorts it.

Your GP probably did a complete blood count (CBC) test to check your haemoglobin levels, blood iron levels, and ferritin levels - but if not, might be worth a look ?
