Geyser timer solution for solar

when you paying for electricity its over kill

Those days are over.

So for me so far I did not have to eat into the grid for heating the geyser and my battery is at 100% soc every afternoon at 5pm so I'm managing my loads okay for now.

It really helps to be at 70C. 4 showers and water still very hot can-do dishes if I wanted or even a hot wash on my top loader.

Definitely for us . - lol i let mines go to 70C if I have enough PV generation
How do you know the temp it got to?
Geyser wise

Clearly no lizard people in your home :)
Roughly how many hours you running the Geyser?

Well, I have it on the timer for 11am to 3pm but roughly after 1h 50m the thermostat switches it off.

seems a bit quick to get to 70C on a 150L Geyser (its probably in the 60-65C range) - but if its hot enough for you guys dont mess with it
Maybe they don't use as much hot water as the next guy

It only has to heat what you lost
ie my one kids probably uses 3x vs the other

So, geyser at 70C after 4 x showers the last one being 8am and geyser only being switched on at 11am and was switch off the previous day at around 1pm since it reached its temp as per the thermostat chatgpt say the estimated water temp at time of switch on the next day is 38C

Interesting

I wonder how it knows how long a shower is?

I don't think it needs that. Here is all the stats I gave. Remember I know how much electricity was used to heat it until thermostat cut off at 70C because of that smart wifi timer.

That said ~38C isn't that much hot water left. So even running at 70C once per day isn't enough if you need a lot of hot water you would need to top up again before the morning if you need more than 4 showers.

38 is quite a bit warmer than say 20 :-) the water coming in from the pipes can be 0 to 20 degrees

Yes, and? I just spit-balled the 20c in the beginning being generous.
20 is roughly quite accurate as that is what the water coming in will be :-) so if you drain the 150l it will be replaced with the 20 degrees. The lowest I've seen is 0 but it was just coming out of winter.

Luckily you have clear skies in winter.

38c sounds like you are radiating a lot of heat. Even if I left my geyser powered, it would mabe kick in for 10 to 30 mins late at night to boost temp. I turn mine off at 3pm, we use it that night an it comes on again around 9am or earlier depending on sun. Its more than hot enough, we still add cold water to ours a lot.

Maybe consider geyser blanket? But modern geysers are pretty well insulated. Ours is outside even.
