Gigs.co.za

...resellers of a company mentioned - good throughput (damn side better than MWEB) – no need to be alarmed – brilliant offering – take it!

ah now all your other comments make sense

the main problem with this is that what they are giving is not uncapped at all
hell I'm over 30Gb for this month on my 384K line and my phone line was stuffed for a week

this is a 20GB un shaped and then 10GB shaped capped account and should be advertised as such
I'm sure there is allot of people that would prefer that to getting a shaped uncapped account.

But advertising it as uncapped is wrong

Refer to Fair usage policy

Reported to ASASA.

Feel free to do the same here: http://www.asasa.org.za/Complaint.aspx

We can't let people get away with completely false advertising like this. So report them and help those less knowledgeable not to fall for this crap.

The First 20GB is unshaped....
Some other ISP's throttle you to the extent that the service is useless after 15GB so I don't see a problem with this, also, the fair usage policy is stated on the site.

Yes, the service might be useless, but the service is never terminated.

This is actually a battle we've been having for a while now where ISP's offer uncapped internet and throttle you to hell and back on ice-skates.

The issue we want to raise with Gigs is not the fact that the service gets throttled, but in fact that it gets terminated - thus contravening the term "uncapped" as advertised.

I am the owner of gigs.co.za. Would you be willing to pay more for a unshaped account that is not throttled at all and not capped at all?

That depend on how much more :)

Please understand we are not "attacking" Gigs or anything, but much rather giving advice on what to look out for.

I think the discussions in this forum is much more convenient ( and cheaper :D ) than having a client complain to ASASA and take Gigs to court for false advertising.

If the connection has a hard-cap, rather call it "High-capped bandwidth" instead of "Uncapped Bandwidth"

How about starting off with the uncapped part first? The unthrottled/unshaped aspect can be introduced via a separate package.

Probably best to think of a better name as 20/30 GB is by no means "high". For the same price as their "uncapped" 512 Kbps I can get 30 GB of 4Mbps unshaped data. I refer back to this topic somebody posted earlier: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/14066-Afrihost-uncapped-ADSL-uncapped-ASA.html - it's clear that any service that gets cut-off after an amount of bandwidth is reached simply cannot be advertised as being uncapped.

Hopefully ASASA and ICASA would make their rulings real soon, that this uncapped s*** can be ended and removed from advertising.

Updated pricing and fair usage policy - opinions welcome

Hope to hear from everyone soon.

Ok so if I understand you correctly the more expensive unshaped options effectively have no FUP. 1 question though, why the massive jump in price from 384 unshaped to 512 unshaped. 33% more speed but over 100% more expensive???

Also you may want to create a better value package for 4Mb all inclusive, not even telkom thinks 3gig plus line rental for R500 odd is good value. Look into creating 10 20 and 50 gig all inclusive packages.

Well I can't argue with you new policy
it is direct ans spells out what the terms are

Any new info available for this host/provider? I see they have a package 4/10MB Uncapped for R899.00? This is real cheap considering mwebs @ R2359.00

You looking at the wrong section. Gigs's 4/10MB uncapped shaped is R899. Their unshaped is R2359 and thats for up to 4MB... dunno if anyone offers unshaped 10Meg

Looks like pricing is exactly the same
