GMAIL Storage space increase

I see my GMAIL storage space is now up to 10GB for free - not sure when this change happened. I did just sign up to google drive to try so maybe this had something to do with the bump in storage space even though the 2 services do not share storage space?
 
Mine has also been bumped up to 10GB.

Also using Google Drive, but they aren't using each others capacity.

Google announced it in celebration of the launch of Google Drive on Tuesday
