Looks like Google introduced some extra feature to gmail called "gmail Labs".

I think only some accounts have it atm. Look on the top bar of gmail sortof on the right side. There is a red link that says "New gmail Labs!".

Includes various stuff they upgraded.:D

ETA: New tab under settings where you enable all the stuff.

I checked it out, thanks Havoc. I don't use the Gmail web interface, so it won't help me really ;) :D :p

popped into gmail earlier today and noticed it me'self. as i said, just popped in so didnt actually look into it. on local only now, so cant go check - whats it got?

It's got a few "tools", call it widgets for gmail, like putting the screen in doze mode for 15 minutes if you are tired and snake game and a bunch of other, rather useless stuff to be honest :p

Sucks. i use gmail basic, and now they have upgraded it so you have a preview of the email. This is shyte as it uses more bandwidth.
huh!

I thought the "gmail labs" referred to what new features they have been cooking up lately. Like they used to have a red link there that said "New Features" ... now they call it Gmail Labs... as in look what we are cooking up now... if you see what I mean. I don't think the new feature is called "Gmail Labs"... that's the way I read it. Could be wrong though... it has happened before! ;)

I love GMail! I imported all my Outlook .pst files so now I only use GMail.

The new features (gmail labs) are similar in approach to the Firefox add-ons where developers can create any feature they want and make it available to the public. There were be a lot of new things in gmail labs that will never get past the experimental stage and will be dropped; but the best features will be kept and implemented as standard or the user will have the choice to disable any new feature, so no harm done there.

OK. Update:

The idea is that they put all these features on there...then everybody votes and those that made the cut stay. i.e. Some of these features (like the snake game) will disappear again.
