Gobii IVP

Anyone having problems with the microphone on this phone? Quite a few people I talk to using the Gobii complain that my voice is not very clear. :(

Working with this phone for a while now I also noticed this.

It is somewhat a issue for me.

My GPS is extremely erratic. It does not seem to be able to obtain a fix most of the time. I installed a GPS monitoring tool from the Playstore, and after about 40 minutes it finally locked on. Have not been able to repeat that for some time now.

I will contact Kalahari to see if this is a known problem. It could be a bad connection to the GPS antenna, as the signal processing is clearly working for the WiFi, Phone, Data, Radio all to work fine.

Same here regarding GPS.

I'm looking at getting this as a cheap device to use for development. Yay or nay?

Ja Typical - if you don't do you homework then you'll likely to follow others - this phone does come with 2G/3G: GSM900/1800 and WCDMA2100 - Frequency

Check on the Phone Spec's and you'll discover for yourself.

Has anyone managed to get incompatible apps to work on this phone? For example, Goolge+ shows as incompatible in the Play Store. I have tried downloading the apk to pc, and then manually installing, but it says "App Not Installed"... I'm hoping there is a work around, and is not a hardware incompatibility

Haven't tried installing G+ but, I haven't had a problem with any other apps. I'll try install it when I'm on Wi-Fi.

Thanks for the replies. Have you both rooted the device?
I just purchased the phone last week, hopefully they haven't changed something in the latest version...

... No play store on this here IVP I just had the displeasure of taking out of a box. The Free Apps app does not seem to do anything other than opening the gobii getting started webpage. What on earth were Kalahari smoking when they decided to take this route? Am I missing some trick here?

Initial thoughts:
"Leatherette" cover ... LOL! Is the phone seriously stuck onto the cover with double sided tape?!
Called Kalahari to order an extra battery, screen protector and proper cover... they have no info about any of these and I suspect they'll never get any.

Download the play store apk and you're set.

Play store is there, just not shown by default. You can access it via Settings->Apps->All then click on the play store

Actually, the cover is very nice. It works, feels good, protects the phone & acts as a stand! As a 'freebie', it's great.
The only problem I have is the small amount of program storage area (internal storage). Also, the built in apps are a bit of a waste. Phone storage if fine, & I also have an SD card as well. Yes, you cane move some apps to phone storage, but itt does not really help!
I'm a bit nervous to root. It was mentioned that possibly, with rooting, more apps can be installed.
