Golf mk6 gti or something else?

Im not too sure how this car performs but what about the KIA Cerato Koup? 2 doors, boot for pram, great looks and an excellent price.
 
I can't believe that Ford has barely got a mention in here o.O Go test drive a 5dr ST, or even a TDCi manual. Awesome drivers cars.

They're about to be replaced with a new model, that's why.

I have been discussing it with a few ppl via pm on here.
I absolutely love the ST, i find it one of the most satisfying driving experiences. As you say, even the tdci is great (but pricey)...

But as BCO mentioned, its due for replacement next year, and that bothers me... Have been thinking i should use this to squeeze the salesguys for the best deal....but we see...

So what? A great car is a great car. In fact there's no saying that their new model will actually be better. I understand that its going to be part of a consolidated global launch (American cars will no longer be different). The american influence on the model might be very different to what we are expecting, so don't wait on something you don't know. If you want a car now, then evaluate what is available now. Theres always something new 'just around the corner'.

I find the GTI overpriced and the other VI models overpriced and boring to drive. The focuses where much more engaging and nimble. The tdci should be far cheaper than the GTI?? (at least the manual) Or did you mean pricey in terms of value?

Yeah i agree to a point, but if i get an ST, i will keep it for 3 - 5 years, trying to sell it when its (then) 2 generations behind is going to be tough...
By pricey, I mean the tdci is like 280k....ST is 299k....its a no brainer between the two...

Yeah makes sense. I read that there might well be a new Golf end 2011 or early 2012, so that would be the same situation. the GTI would be in the same boat. I would have thought the 5dr ST would be well over 300k. Excuse my laziness at not checking :P

I see the prices they initially advertise are also mis leading.
the 3 door is shown as 299k, but works out to 312k in the real world
the 5 door around 330k.

gotta say, at those prices its looking even less likely to purchase an ST....

I am pretty interested in the megane RS at the moment. Just wish it wasnt a renault :)
 
A facelift Golf6 maybe, but not a new one, that will only be in 2014. Than again their styling is so static and conservative you will not really notice it.

The Focus is a fun car and it has very good performance. If you really can wait for the new one then it should only be to try out the performance because looks wise its not a major shift : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Focus_(international)#Mk_3_.282011-.29
The Megane RS is about looks as well as performance which is what makes it a good option. The new Astra 1.6T is not so much about performance but in terms of looks its ahead of the rest.
 
I have come to appreciate how people differ, and so will their choices
I've been following this thread for a while now
I've come to realise that there are people who like/prefer Astra, others like Megane RS, and some Focus ST. It is also similar with cellphones (Android vs iOS vs symbian vs MS fan boys, and fan girls) and other things in life.

I think you should test drive all these cars and decide for yourself.
That's what I did. Made a shortlist, test drove some of the cars we are discussing.
I also drove the GTi MK6 DSG. All I can say is what a car!
The only negative was the fuel consumption especially when you really put your foot down. But I think with all these cars we are discussing that is not much of a factor.
I settled for the Golf MK6 2.0TDI. I love it. It solid. Build quality is good. Its also torquey and power isn't too bad.
Never looked back
 
The future looks great for hot-hatches. They sell in large numbers since they're a great compromise between a daily driver and speed/power when you need it but the best of it all is that it seems everyone is chasing the S3 and upping power figures with each generation (look at previous megane RS, etc). Word is new S3 will be upped to 300 BHP as well.

Whatever it is that you decide to buy, just remember, it'll most likely be outdated in 3 years, badly :p

New GTI and ST expected in 2012; New Astra OPC producing over 200kW expected in 2011; New S3 expected in 2013 with 225kW. Any car you buy now will be replaced with a new model in a year or 2 so choose wisely. I'd personally purchase a used 135i or used S3 (not the Sportback) for no more than R325k.
 
They all look pretty good if you ask me. The Focus is a little dated and the upcoming new one not as exciting as the others, but its still fun to drive. However if it is about looks you can't argue that the Germans got it right - but you'll have to wait for it.

Can't help but think that astra looks like a smaller version of the BMW 6-series.
