Golf mk6 gti or something else?

Go for the Impreza man!

VW loses value way too quick, you can pick up a mk5 gti for around R180,000 now a couple years later, you'll hardly have your car and the mk7 will be released n not too long after that mk8, The mk6 has hardly been around and they releasing the mk7 - which will tremendously drop the value of the mk6 , rather go for the rocco then..
It's a stunning car but is it really worth it when there are so many other cars in the same and higher 'league' for the same price? it will always just be a golf.

Maybe a lumina? or OPC or M3 or Mazda 3 MPS (190kw) or even a lexus.
But then again like someone said, it's about your taste, not mine or any one elses
Really? I've only seen 4-5 year old GTIs going for that much. Considering that they cost R240k new at the time, I wouldn't say that it depreciated as badly as the equivalent Mazdas and Opiels.

+1000 (check my post count out, lol)
infact they were one of the better cars to have ito depreciation
i was looking for one last year september, 06-07 model,
if i look for the same now some have actually been asking more than last year price

Deprecation aside, if you park three equally aged vehicles next to eash other, say, Impreza, Golf GTi and a Cement Truck - all three have way different market values and depreciation trends - yet the Golf GTi looks the least exciting of the three.

Agreed. Why all the negativity towards it? I think people just haven't read up enough on what the CRZ is supposed to be - a Hybrid Sports Car. I can also think of a couple of reasons to buy it over a Type-R (@UnUnOctium): It's newer, it's more exclusive and it has WAAAAY better fuel consumption.

Agreed on those 3 points. But for some people (me included) power is what we crave, I would find it nigh-on impossible to part with R340k and choose between 130 bhp and 200 bhp :D Ofcourse, I'm not in the position (still a student) to actually go and get myself a new car (16 year old Honda FTW!) but do intend to get my grubby paws on whatever the new S3 will be when I'm done. One can only live driving a slow car for so long :p

Yes Really, mk5 gti goes for around R180000 Trust me, where ever you looking they are pushing there luck - who wouldn't... think about it, you can pick up a Runx RSi TRD for around R180000, they were sold brand new R220000, RSI for R140000 brand new = R180000, that said the GTI went down R60000 while the TRD and RSi went down R40000 in an average time frame of 3 years, yet the GTI is supposed to be the superior (BTW only has 6kw more power) and I've seen a TRD eat a GTI!

Pick up a boxie shape Corolla in mint condition 1982 model for R60000! while that car was sold brand new from Toyota for R8000 (don't argue with me) NOW...can VW do that???
I've seen two in Cape Town standing at dealers, one going for R64000 and the other for R80000(this one doesn't count though, motor was modified like a 8sec car or something can't rem), think the R64000 one may still be avail, standing at a dealer in Voortrekker

I agree Wrt to the Mazda's and Opels but Toyota's / Subaru's / Lexus Noooo!

How about a VW R32?

using car find as a reference...
there are also mk5 gti's with 147000km on clock (2006) for 180k.....

Yes just like there are mk5 gti's same year model, same mileage as the one's I've posted going for R200k+, it all depends if you one of those people who are okay with being overcharged.
My point has been made, that's that :-)

or on the flip side, ppl happy to pay less and most likely get a car that has been driven hard and/or damaged.
Your point is actually not that valid

i have the same point of view

sometimes you do get that clean low mileage car for a steal tho

No you're being a moron. Did I not initially say that it was probably for a 4/5 year old car? Which isn't too bad considering that it sold for R240k new at the time.

As for your R60000 Corolla that sold for R8000 new, you obviously haven't grasped the difference between a car that has become a collectors item, and a contemporary model that hasn't. If all the exisiting mk5 GTIs exploded, and 10 remained in mint condition, you can bet your ass that it will fetch a handsome price in 20 years.

But who said they were damaged or driven hard? My point was you can pick up a mk 5 gti for R180000, I have proven that.
Though if the car was damaged or anything I would pay more as is the case with any other car.

My opinion is just that... MINE

no, your point was trying to prove how bad the resale value of a GTI was .....
My point...that just looking at a price in carfind is not really a decent indication, especially when there is so much variance between sellers...and no actual car history is known.

For me, i think the GTI has pretty good resale value, not the best i agree, but not remotely close to what i would call bad.
