Gone with DStv

Steve Hofmeyr’s supporters are following his lead by cancelling their DStv accounts and destroying their DStv satellite dishes and decoders.

On Thursday, Hofmeyr posted a video on Facebook where he cancelled his DStv account, destroyed his DStv decoder by driving over it, and took his satellite dish off his roof.
 
People seriously have time to do silly things. So what if DSTV bans your "fave"... move on, it is really not that deep.
 
In my opinion DSTV are the racists in the manner that they are handling the Steve Ofmeyer situation. How many politicians and other black people have made terrible racist comments against the white population? Yet none of this was ever suggested against them! Why now against Steve? Because he is white? DSTV must be careful because this situation might backlash against them in due time as I believe they are upsetting a lot of people. I hope that some wealthy business man would start a new, non partisan TV station. Their basket prices are exhobirant considering what they offer the public.

There are already competitors popping up from Namibia. Just too small to recommend and might be a scam, so I'll wait until they grow. Something like R250 per month for 1000 channels.
 
Steve represents everything that was wrong for me with the past. I grew up under the old flag and my first vote cast was on the day our new flag came in, unlike many on this forum. I don't glorify the past or wish it back.

I'm looking at DSTVs decision based on the merits of his actions. We are addressing an individual issue here so lets focus on the root cause and not allow us to be distracted by the actions of others.

The time will come to handle the other racists out there and to hold DSTV accountable to be consistent.
 
Through this pathetic action of virtue signalling, DSTV are demonstrating that they are willing to turn their back on an entire segment of society in order to join like minded activist orginisations on their Social Justice Warrior ladder. My message to DSTV is that I am cancelling my DSTV account not because I am a fan of Hofmeyr's music, but because you DSTV have become far to big for your boots and through this pathetic but dangerous action , are raising the temperature in an already flammable public discourse. Lets all hope that in years to come when students of economics 101 look back at the reasons why DSTV failed, that textbooks will record how poor ideologically motivated decisions caused a global media orginisation to collapse.

Childish. It is not about Afrikaans, but political. It is your money you are throwing away and yourself that you are spiting all over one person, who by no means is an angel. Look how he treated women with total disrespect and made babies as far as he went. What a role model! Only thing I disagree with Multichoice is that they claim that it is due to racims, but what about Somizi Mhlongo, who is one of the main faces of Multichoice? He is one of the biggest racists in South Africa, but is still on DSTV. Why is he also not being banned?

Those are politicians, if Hofmeyr starts a party he'll be free to make his racist rants and get all the coverage he could ever desire on the news
